Well, I'm not exactly planning to change the theme of my home menu or anything like that, I'm just planning to use the emulators and then add ctgp revolution. I downloaded modmii, but some of it confuses me. I filled out the wizard and it asked me what channels I want, but it just listed channels built into the wii (photos, mii channel, etc.)
Sounds like you don't want any of these, so answer No. I'm not sure what there is to be confused about.

Edit: and when asked about themes, say no. Simple as that

Edit2: when you're finished with modmii, all you should need to do manually is ctgp revolution stuff, as it's not built into modmii

cIOSs (required to use a USB-loader to launch your games),
Yeah I dont have one of those so I dont think I need to worry about that. Also I'd rather not get into pirated games and stuff...

Hey, I have a quick question about modmii. It made a guide for me and i have been reading through it, but it says when you install letterbomb, don't select bundle the hackmii installer, but then 2 steps later it says to use the hackmii installer. Is hackmii built into modmii?

just don't system update if it prompts you to and you'll be fine. Other than that, connecting your Wii to the net (especially if u use Riiconnect24) Won't erase any mods. However, if you plan to hack a newer console (even the 3DS) then you may have reason for concern

Yeah, switch modding looks cool, but it just isn't worth it. Not only do you get blocked from playing online, you CANT EVEN BUY GAMES FROM NINTENDO'S OWN STORE. Like seriously, what was Nintendo thinking? "Hmm yes someone seems to be modding our consoles, let's block them from buying our stuff that gives us money!"

another dumbass Nintendo moment lol. Although maybe it was to try and prevent game-specific exploits?

Its 2021, I`m not sure I`d trust anyone offering to mod your Wii and they are cautioning you to not connect to internet? Almost seems like something doesn`t sound right, like they are using outdated info?

in any case, whatever you do... do not give your Wii in to get it modded you will just inadvertently fuel a shady and probably illegal business since they will probably load the emulators with rom's, and that's a big no-no.

not to be a huge echo chamber here, but yeah, don't pay anyone to mod it for you. If you're simply buying a Wii, that's fine, but do not pay for Homebrew/emulators/mods. It's really easy to get started and if you're just getting into Wii modding, you're going to want to do it yourself.

No you can't, Nintendo will ban you from using their consoles and if they catch you using one they will find you, slap you and get you arrested and then you will be put in solitary confinement for 70 years

and if you think that's bad, just look at what happened to the guy who made a Metroid fan game.....

Or maybe to prevent something similar to the Wii shoplifting channel (unreleased) to be created and released for the Switch

edit: just speculation, I don't know jack about the switch
This goes off-topic… but anyway: Don't think so. The servers will only allow downloading if you provide a legit ticket. This has been backported to the 3DS and since then Freeshop doesn't work anymore (which caused a lot of whining). Some say the aggressive ban behavior is part of anti-cheat.

Banning from eShop makes no sense in either case. A ban from online playing makes sense in both.

The only reason I can think of for banning somebody from shopping is fraud, like using stolen credit card information or buying a lot of things and then do a chargeback.
=============

Back to actual topic:
@gabe8273

Having somebody else do it for you is theoretically a valid option, given that
  • The shop knows what they're doing. This is questionable (like already mentioned), since they advised you not to connect the Wii to the internet. Blocking updates should suffice (and disc updates can also mess up and overwrite cIOS without the internet).
  • Does not charge too much
  • Does not include illegal copies (ROMs)
  • Gives you and your family a good explanation as part of the service.
There are several reasons why I personally would advise against paying somebody else:
  • If the shop does not know what they're doing you'll end up with a suboptimal result. At the very least, when using a service: Make sure BootMii is installed in boot2 (if possible, only very old Wii) and Priiloader can be started by holding (Reset) on power on (all Wii consoles can and should have this protection). Ask for a NAND backup as well and store it in a secure location.
  • If you ever encounter any problems with your softmod it will be harder for us to help you, since you don't know what actually has been done. One reason why we recommend doing it yourself is the learning experience. Carefully reading and following a guide will give you some insight why some things are done and why some things must not be done in order to prevent damage.
  • This kind of service is not really needed. Anybody can use ModMii or wii.guide
    • I found a shop in Germany offering Wii softmods for €50 (plus shipping back and forth) and thought: "What!?" They probably prepared an SD with ModMii or similar and do this mod in 15 minutes. @XFlak (or anybody involved in some other guide) and the creators of the HackMiiInstaller, who prohibited selling HackMiiInstaller as part of a bundle (a softmodding service could be interpreted as such a bundle) as well as the creators of all the homebrew software involved get nothing. I do realize all this software is free (as in free beer, some also free as in freedom). But I still don't see why a third party should get money when the developers don't.

In any case:

Good luck and have fun!

Well...turns out my wii is too new to mod it, so I'm gonna have to buy another. It's one of those red ones.

What do you mean with "the red one"? There is a regular red Wii and the red and black Wii Mini.

Since the Bluebomb exploit exists, all Wii consoles can be modded, including the Wii Mini. While wii.guide has instructions for Bluebomb and installing cIOS on the Mini, in my opinion it is not the preferred console. Less tested, least possibilities, worst picture quality. If yours is the Mini, getting another one in addition is a good idea. If you buy another Wii, I strongly recommend getting a white RVL-001 model. The older, the better from the perspective of homebrew and modding.

Hopefully I did not mess up too much. I'm crappy at image editing and used the Linux equivalent of mspaint for cutting and writing into the picture.
