I think we need some support from GBA Temp regarding cheat theft.

CheatSlips enters the forums, takes the cheats and changes the author's name.

The result is that there are already cheat creators who are getting discouraged because cheating is not trivial, it takes work, and they are not recognized because CheatSlips does not seem to have policies that prohibit posting cheats without proper credit.

They do not have a reporting or comment system where complaints can be made.

It may seem like a trifle, but GBA Temp has one of the most exclusive cheat-making communities on the internet, and it's being stolen.

Therefore, it is important that the administration of GBA Temp promotes some kind of recognition to the people who bring new cheats every day, and in some way make CheatSlips understand that it must provide a mechanism so that people stop stealing the cheats of this community.

I find it kinda funny. I'm guessing a vast majority here are playing on pirated software, and even makes the cheats while using pirated software. And that seems to be all good.
But then someone copies YOUR work and then it's not cool all of a sudden.

I agree this type of shit sucks but im not sure what mods can do to stop something as blatantly as this. Its almost as bad as stealing code from something like atmosphere and repackaging it as something you created.....um wait

Why are the cheat creators making the cheats? So people can use them.

It isn't like they are trying to profit of the cheats, they are just trying to give back to the community of HB users.
If another site "steals" the cheats, is the cheat automatically dirty and bad now? Can it still serve its purpose of helping someone? If you don't want your cheats being stolen, then keep them to yourself.

Plus, even if the Admins wanted to do something, what would they do? What is your solution? You didn't provide a course of action. You said that they should give the cheat creators more recognition, but why would they do that? No one else gets special recognition except mods and donators. Personally -no offense to the cheat creators- I would much prefer we highlight the great devs we have in the community if we have to give a special badge to a group.

Good bait post tho

Those are not comparable at all. What the so-called pirates are doing is bypassing DRM, which not only might be entirely lawful, it is a neccessary mechanism for preserving software. The equivalent here in terms of games would be intentionally removing the credit exhibitions and nothing else.

I've actually spoken about this with the other mods. I want to give cheat creators some recognition here on the forums. I think "developer" is a close flag, but seems a bit off as well.

Cheatslips is unfortunately user driven. People upload to it, and some are d-bags and not giving proper credits. Let me speak with the person behind it tomorrow and see what I can do to help. It's shit to have your own work yanked out.

I didnt want to get involved in this cheat stealing site debacle, but as a cheat maker who shares cheats for free, I can see why this is an issue.

I think you make a solid point, I dont make cheats so other people can get paid. (Even if its only a little.) So yes cheat makers are being forced to either charge for their cheats to prevent others from profiting from them, or just not sharing them altogether.

Personally, Im fine either way. I still can make cheats when I need them, and I never was going to charge for them so really all this drama only means one less step for me, but I can see why a good chunk of the community is upset. (Honestly, the overwhelming majority.) Ive always been disgusted with the dichotomy the cheat community devolved into. Its 1% makers and 99% beggars of course most people would be upset when the people who share cheats for free are less motivated to do so.

Honestly, I dont know how you could prevent stuff like this. This site is literally the first site you find when you google "switch sxos cheats." If somebody is looking for free cheats, they are going to find them well before some noname website, so I feel this issue is mostly one of principle, but dont get me wrong, it doesnt sting any less.

Imho, I think the community owes it to themselves to become a little less lazy. This is a product of what we have devolved into. Instead of talking about the process we just use forums as a dumping ground for (sometimes obnoxious) requests, and our final products. If more people learned there would be less demand for cheats. Unfortunately, with a rising demand for cheats, its just creating an incentive for makers to not only not share cheats but not teach those who ultimately would end up paying them for their cheats.

I will say that I will always enjoy making cheats, talking with people who make cheats, helping people make cheats, and teaching those who want to learn so I have no reason to leave the community but I think Im going to be a little more careful what I post publicly. Any cheat makers that want any help, want to talk, or share feel free to PM me, everybody else, good luck.
