Next-Gen Poll: PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X?

PS5 vs XBSX GBAtemp Poll.png

It’s been about a week since we got a look at what games will be playable on the Xbox Series X; a couple of weeks after the PlayStation 5's own showcase aired. We now have a better idea as to what titles to expect from each next-gen console. Even if more details and games will be revealed in the coming months, we can already appreciate what each console has to offer in terms of games, features and specs. So how about a poll to see which console you'll more likely pick up? Before making a decision, let's roundup each console's features and games!

PlayStation 5

Sony was relatively tight-lipped when it came to news of the PS5. First it revealed the logo, then the controller’s design and some specs. We only got a look at the consoles during its Future of Gaming event in June. And yes, I used consoles in plural because there will be two editions of the PS5: a regular one with the optical disc and a Digital Edition.

So let’s see what Sony has to offer in terms of specs and games for next-gen gaming!

Right, what are specs without games? Sony had quite a lot to show during its Future of Gaming event from Demon's Souls Remake through a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn to the trippy Bugsnax. Here’s a highlight reel or if you wish to watch the full event, head here:

It’s good to note that while these games are planned for a PS5 release, not all of them will be available this year or even next. Moreover, not all will be console exclusives, so PC or Xbox gamers will be able to experience some of the same games shown here.

Xbox Series X

Compared to Sony, Xbox was more open about its next-gen console. By the time Sony only revealed the PS5 logo, we already had a detailed look at the Xbox Series X hardware. While Sony has confirmed two versions of the PS5, Xbox has only revealed only one version of its next Xbox. However, recent leaks suggest that Microsoft is also planning multiple iteration of its next-gen console.

Now, let’s see what has been touted as “the most powerful console ever” packs.

Oddly enough, when Xbox shared the first look of games for its new console, it went for indie and third-party titles rather than first party games. However, last week we got a look at those first-party games such as the anticipated Halo Infinite, a new RPG from Obsidian and a new Fable teaser. Check out the highlight reel below or the full event here:

Your choice

While we have much more information about these consoles than previously, a lot is still unknown. Firstly, we don’t have any official information regarding the pricing of those next-gen consoles. This leaves a lot to speculate about. How much would you be willing to pay for a brand-new console in 2020? Additionally, an exact release date has yet to be announced, other than a planned ‘Holiday 2020’ window.

But it’s safe to say that you should start saving if you want to be among the first to enjoy next-gen console gaming. So which one will be your pick based on what we know so far? And do share what led to your decision below!

Kind of hard to judge, seeing how we don't know the price and that's a major factor for a lot of people.

But for me it's easy, PS5, cuz MS seems quite intent on putting their first party games on PC (which are pretty much the only Xbox exclusives I care about), so no sense in buying a Sexbox when I have a perfectly good PC.

I may eventually purchase both but for sure getting a ps5 first since any xbox "exclusives" will still be on the normal xbox one (s,x) and pc.

personally, i've always been a playstation guy. i find them far superior than xbox.

i've always seen microsoft as a... computer company. like, desktop specifically. i don't see them being a console company. reason being because of their name, slogan, whatever it is. i just don't get it.

but with sony on the other hand, i see them as console material per-say. more than likely i think this due to the playstation, it being such a game-changing console. nuff' said.

although, this past year of hype for the ps5/xboxx has me feeling a combination of things. for one, i feel overwhelmed. i understand that consoles are designed to get better with time, and as technology gets better. however i personally feel this is a massive jump. another thing i feel is... well i just feel bored. i feel very bored when i talk about the ps5. back when the ps4 was being released, i was super hyped. i was amazed by the idea and how insane it looked compared to the chunky ps3. nuff' said, once again.

i feel other things about the console news this past year, too. such as regret(minimal), jealousy(i have a problem), and a fuck ton of doubt.

and, as much as i disagree with judging books by their cover and title, i need to do it this time. the name "ps5" sounds absolutely retarded imo, and the design of it is... bluegh. although, this is just my opinion.

however, take the xbox for instance. they have taken a more direct approach when it comes to the design, sure it might be big, but it isn't a stupid shape AND big. you have a rectangular box, checkered design for airflow, super clever and simple logo placement, and just... well i like it much more. i am much more hyped for the xbox than the playstation. looks really DO mean everything in this world, no matter how bad you want that to change, or how hard you try to change it... you cannot change my mind on that.

now, for games? i don't give a shit about the games. both of them are gonna have a large variety of games, and no matter which console i was to purchase over the other, i'll still want to have the other one to play its exclusives. in the end, though... i am not much of a console person anyways. i love the idea, concept, company battles, etc. but i just don't love using them.

i don't care about specs either. they are both super powerful machines.

so, i guess i am more excited for the new xbox. but in the double end, i don't want either. i have a perfectly fine pc that does everything i want and need it to do.

thanks for coming to my ted talk.

For sure I prefer the Xbox, I find the console itself way more interesting.
But lately I think I will postpone buying any next gen for next year, then I can see how badly each company fucks up, and also I hope I will avoid YLODs aplenty of the first models.

The only console that, up to now, has an exclusive that I am really interested in playing is PS5.
Even if I don't like the console itself, that exclusive (aka Horizon Forbidden West) will make me get it in the long run.

So... better wait, who knows, perhaps Horizon 2 ends up being a PoS and I don't even have a reason to buy a PS5; perhaps Microsoft finally shows something interesting software-wise... anything can happen if I allow myself to control the compulsive consumerist impulse.

I've been trying to decide for quite a while. I think that the ps5 will be the better console but the Xbox series x will be the better value. The ps5 seems more innovative compared to the Xbox series x which feels more like a spec bump than a next gen console. The ps5 has a new UI, a controller with new cool features, and a much more advanced ssd. All of these things along with the exclusives will probably make the ps5 sell much more units than series x. That being said, the Xbox series x will be a better value. If the rumors are true then the series x will be 100$ cheaper and it will even be more powerful than the ps5. This along with the amazing value of gamepass will make the Xbox series x a great value which those on a budget will buy.
