I recently got all the parts/equipment I needed to finally get my Wii U hacked and loaded with some games. I have ~180 games installed to an external USB HDD.

I have noticed that the icons on the Wii U title menu are very slow to load. I am curious as to whether or not anyone out there is using an SSD as the external drive for the Wii U, and whether or not it effects the load time of the icons on the main menu.

It is difficult to find information out there as the Wii U really did have a pretty mediocre set of games released for it, and something like a 2TB SSD is a pretty large plunge for someone to take in terms of cost, so few people seem to have messed with it too much.

You can make Folders and put the Icons into. That loading Times are normal.I have an 1 TB SSD and it needs about 30 Seconds until all are loaded.:)

I have 3 Folders á 60 Games.

Thank you.:)

Everyone is in such a hurry these days they are lucky they missed out on the old 8bit days of loading games from tape. Wait for 5 minutes for the first level to load. Finish the level in a minute then wait another 5 minutes for the next level to load ect ect lol.

Honestly, you needed to be a very particular type of person to be into computing back then. Not so much anymore.

a ssd won't benefit on the wii u. same with ps3 and 360. none of those systems are equipped for it. regarding the icons, they're part of the meta, but they're not indexed, so the system is reading them from the hdd one at a time. be careful with icons, you can change them, but the save credentials are very specific. if you screw up, the game won't load even though it's only the icon that's bad. you'll get three question marks for the game name and a question mark block for the icon. I've tested this before, and I wrote down the save information for the icon, nintendo or wii logo, and the tv and gamepad screens. each one is very specific and must be exact or the game won't work. definitely don't try this on a cbhc title. uninstall cbhc first. anyway, what you're experiencing is normal. sometimes it's faster than other times, because the read speed is not a steady line.
