Hacking Trying to extract dvd firmware from hitachi47

Hi all, I’ve entered the wide world of xbox360 modding/hacking with my xenon hitachi47I’ve got an old xp laptop with an intel 82801DBM chipset. The controller is listed under “ide ata/atapi controllers”. I have seen that some users have had success with a sata to usb adapter. I’ve got this one. I’ve installed the portio drivers, but quickly found out that’s not what I have. I removed that driver now. I’ve got Jungleflasher 1.9.6 all setup with the libisb0.dll in the root (with Jungleflasher.exe) and all firmwares in the “firmware” directory. Jungleflasher can’t see my drive.

Some might tell me to take this thing outback and drown it, but I’d like to give this a decent try.

What am I missing? What should I try next?

when I flashed my drive, jungle flasher was only able to detect 2 out of 4 sata inputs. I had to mess with it for a bit. it didn't help that I was drunk at the time of my first flashing, but it went smoothly for the most part. it was also a hitachi, but a 78fk where you had to do something to power the drive or to make it think it was receiving power from the system. I'd suggest trying a different sata connection.

I don’t think the chipset of my laptop is compatible with the dvd drive. It wasn’t listed. I ended up ordering a x360usbpro v2 to help me. I tried 2 other laptops and no luck. I figure, if this 360 dies, I can use the x360usbpro v2 on a new 360.

I'd suggest buying a new model 360. those xenons are like the old ps3 phats. they just don't last.

Awesome thanks! I’m keeping my eye open for a slim model. Honestly, though, I’ve got a long history with this specific 360 and I’d like to keep it. It’s been running great. If I do see a great deal, however, I’ll jump on it.

If your 360 dies, keep the drive.
You can 0800 it and dump 360 games with it.

Great idea! I’m also looking into some type of a fan mod. I’d like to 12v mod the original fans, but put in a potentiometer so I can adjust the fan speed. I have some pots leftover from when I replaced my pots in my bass. This will be my experiment. It will be great!

Seems the. 360usbpro v2 can rip games without drive flashing.

Replace the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, stick some ram heatsinks on the RAM chips and HANA chip with thermal plaster and whilst you're at it, let's hope you got the GPU heatsink with heatpipe haha, you can mount a small fan on the 2nd heatsink and feed it 7v by pulling it from the PSU port.
Snip away the back fan mesh in the chassis (not shell) for some extra airflow and you could modify the duct a bit so it covers the GPU heatsink.

That's kinda it for quick and cheap cooling mods haha.

Yeh, no need to flash 0800 to the drive, functionality is built in in the V2.

oh yes, I plan to reapply the thermal paste as well. also, I'm looking at this xcm fan that mounts to a heatsink. seems like an easy bonus.
A couple of things I'm not sure about.

I plan on using the 12v from the psu, how would I "step down" the voltage to 7v?
Is thermal plaster the same as thermal paste?

Thermal plaster is different from paste, it kinda glues the heatsink to the chip.
There's multiple 7v/5v point on the board you can pull a line from, no need to step down.

I just got a bog standard 40mm fan, snipped the connector off of it and soldered to the PSU port.
Got 2 screws through the heatsink fins and it's secured haha.

oh, nice. ill look for those. a 12v fan seems pretty loud, thats why I was looking to install a pot. a 7v supply should be perfect.

Also, I’m looking at this as my second fan.

I found the answer. It’s no! Lol. The pot I have is from a guitar. It’s a 200k ohm pot. I was reading that it wouldn’t have great control and that most of the radius of the pot would be a great dead zone. I tested this (because I’m curious) on some other 12v fans (that I gutted from a broken device) with a 12v power supply. It was proved to be right. I also found that I’d need a PWM control.

Also, reading more about the heat sinks. Yes. I have the heat pipe. The one from the falcon motherboard (or was it the zephyr).

What depth is your fan? You mentioned the 40mm above the heatsink.

I couldn’t find the right PWM for brushless fans so I installed a switch instead. I gutted the switch from a power supply unit and it fit perfectly in this hole. I wired the one position to 5v and the other to 3.3v. I ran a constant 12v to the fan. Now I can toggle the fan between 7v and 9v.

I’ve now got my x360usbpro v2 and have pulled my dvd firmware. I ripped one of my games, ran it through abgx360 and loaded it all to my xk3y. It works great! I’ve just got to figure out why my gtav rip won’t work. It’s xgd3.
