Hi, this is a 2 second long video I recorded of a noise/sound I have recently been hearing from my ps4 slim console.

I have not found anyone who has this or any example on google or youtube that is about this sound/noise so I am very interested in seeing if any of you knows what causes it?

This sound is heard at random when I watch for example netflix or go to the ps4 main menu, but I am not sure that I have heard it when playing a game, which is weird.

Is it the HDD about to die, or some overheating signal, or the fan or...?

Eternally thankful if some kind person knows what causes this sound.

yep sounds like the hdd is about to go.. backup you're saves while you still can.

Damn... but also thanks a lot for the reply! Are you very sure? Should I keep the ps4 shut off then as much as possible until I have a usb drive to copy data to? Is it risky or damages the hdd more if I continue using the ps4? Don't want it to die before I can backup all important stuff. :)

the reason it makes that beep noise, it's due to the hdd header getting stuck on the plates... and friction is causing that noise.. the longer you use it, the quicker it will fail.

you could technically fix it, if you do it right.. but requires you to open the hard drive and trying to re-position the header, but the risk of damaging it due to exposure is pretty high.

EDIT: other things could be at play too, the HDD's controller board could be going out as well.

100% is the HDD failing. Lately I have got 6 PS4 slims with 1TB Toshiba made that did fail with the exact same way and they were eventually spinning so slow that made then unreadable. SMART health rate went from like 75% down to 8-10% in 1 day. This happened to the specific 1TB Toshiba HDDs. Maybe it is a the batch or the Sony's HDDs of choice have expiration date.

In my own opinion, the best deal would be to remove the HDD from PS4 itself and clone it on a much safer SSD (less risk of failure compared to an HDD) :grog:
