id Software delays 'DOOM Eternal' and announces 'DOOM 64' for other platforms

Your quest to slay demons has to wait a little bit more. In a new tweet today, id Software announced that they are delaying DOOM Eternal to March 20, 2020, stating that the game needs to “live up to our standards of speed and polish” and that they are "confident that DOOM Eternal will deliver a gaming experience that is worth the wait".

The company also took the opportunity to make a few other announcements like the free Invasion Mode update allowing players to enter other player's game as a playable demon and also that the Switch release date for DOOM Eternal will be after March 20.

Additionally, they also announced that the classic title DOOM 64 will launch not only on the Nintendo Switch but also on Xbox One, PS4 and PC and will come as a free pre-order bonus for DOOM Eternal.

IDC if you think I'm being a tool or not, but if you read between the lines, you'd see that I agreed with you. The DOOM 64 situation here just doesn't bother me. That's it.

That's cool, if you agreed with me though, then I guess I question why you'd be applauding so much the gift of DOOM 64 in how/when they're giving it as a preorder bonus. Seems to me you don't really agree so much as you just don't care. Which hey, that's cool, but personally if giving DOOM 64 is their apology for the delay on Eternal, then I'm always going to personally find it a head scratcher as to why that apology too has to come out on that same day and not instead come out ahead of time to actually feel like the supposed apology that it is.

I see this as an absolute win!

I started Doom 64 but never finished it. Needed Gameshark cheats so you could actually see anything as it was WAY too dark on modern TVs.

No ther was no hate in those days as hardly anyone had internet:D

False, The complains about the Doom ports leaked into gaming magazines.

Nintendo 64 emulation is still not perfect but is quite good these days.

I agree. Idk what that other guy's problem is, but I think you raise an obvious point. Now they are delaying two games instead of just one. The whole point of having a smaller, separate game as a preorder bonus is to tide you over till the release of the larger game. I paid extra to get the "Legacy edition" of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare because it included Modern Warfare Remastered. But they came out the same day. Guess who's never played MWR a single time...
Not to mention the fact, that if Doom 64 was still a Switch exclusive, they would have released it on time. Now, Switch players are double screwed because Doom 64 is delayed by 4 months and they aren't even getting Doom Eternal at the same time as everyone else (which is already delayed 4 months).

This is how game companies should do it. We need more of the "we need time to fix some things and polish this and that" rather than" thanks for giving us fifty quid now heres a game with a lot of broken stuff that we may fix sometime in the future... If the game is a success."

Secretly I bet it is to allow the bad taste of the recent Doom film to wash out of memory.

Anyway nice to see Doom 64 making it to other platforms -- where most other ports are all about noting what was lost this actually added some things and changed it up in ways worth noting. If I don't have to play it on an N64 then so much the better.

Gamers don't care for game films:D
I did not mind Prince of Persia at all actually. Silent Hill was not my thing but as a horror it was a lot more passable than most cinema efforts in recent years, didn't see the more recent one though. Various fighting game films have been highly entertaining if you are after mindless dross or borderline pornographic mindless dross (as are the BloodRayne sequels for that matter). Mario I can at least watch ironically. The earlier Doom was somewhat flawed but had its charms and that end sequence was something to watch (done better before and since but still worth watching). Resident Evil films varied a bit in quality but were generally an amusing few hours each, and the anime effort I saw (one set in an airport) could have been worse. Tomb Raider was done better but I would say its fans are justified, and while I am less enthusiastic about Hitman it was also not without its perks.

I managed to spare myself Max Payne, Assassin's Creed, Need for Speed, Warcraft, Dungeon Siege,Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Far Cry and Rampage (though I hear that is not the worst thing ever)

Edit. Forgot I saw Final Fantasy Spirits Within, in the cinema even. Though that probably says all you want to know, and likely serves as a giant beacon for where the franchise was heading in years to come.

The Doom Eternal delay sucks. I was looking forward to test Stadia with it...

The Doom 64 delay sucks even more though. Good for playstation/xbox owners to also get the game (3rd party exclusives suck) but why also delay it on the switch? And not releasing Eternal on all platforms at the same time, after having used that as a big marketing push (they *especially* mentioned the switch and that it would release on the same day) is kind of a shitty move to do.

If they need more time for the switch port: fine. But they could also have delayed the other platform releases until the switch version is ready. Or give us Doom 64 this year as a compensation to have to wait even longer than anyone else. Right now Switch users got double screwed :(

Edit: I enjoyed the Spirits Within. But the Final Fantasy brand was just slapped on it to get more people to see the movie...

> offline game with splitscreen multiplayer
> Todd Howard is a smug asshole
> Forced bnet login like doom on switch
> forced always online for some arbitrary ass reason
> gets the emulation wrong, again, because Todd hasn't finished a goddamn game since the 1980s

And i say this knowing full well that on the other end of the spectrum, Randy Bitchford wants to keep the duke nukem franchise hostage and refuses to let anyone else have a crack at it, while simultaneously proving that Gearbox only knows how to make Borderlands and nothing else.:cry:
