Ugh - why don't the d2ckey people just get together with the Wlip people already. Or Wlip just put out a new version with all the appropriate pins wired by themselves.
Why would they?. D2Ckey works , they don't care if people who can't solder can't fit it. Teaming up with wlip would mean sharing profits.Besides that , wlip don't even have the other versions of their clip thing out. Maybe want to get that out first and make sure the damn thing works ok , before going for one that has to contact 31 points.
D2CKey may well be outdated soon anyway. Once the infuctus chip appears , assuming it works good , no one is going to go for 31 wires over the 13 of the infectus.
Hmmm, it seems they do care as this thread is about the flexPCB by D2CKey and it's only purpose is to simplify the install. The Wlip works by sitting on top of the chip and if it works for 6 pins it will also work for 31(33 with power) or 13(as long as all the Infecuts points are on the d2c chip) - it's just a matter of adding more wires and contact points. I think they care most about selling more chips - if there is an easy no solder solution they could sell many more d2ckeys to those who don't have the skills to solder but don't want to pay extra for an install. Of course there would be soldering to the mod chip itself but that is easy compared to soldering onto the d2c chip legs.
If they don't want to share profits then just steal the Wlip design. If not that then have distributors sell them as a package deal with the Wlip and the modchip already soldered together, then the end user could just crack open the Wii and snap it on. It seems to me the main block to selling more d2ckeys is the install difficulty, but as you said it may be too late already as more d2c options appear.
