Seems like Nintendo´s take on Blast processing!:P
Maybe they prepare themself for a new Hardware revision?

they should just make the option for developers to sue all the time 1.7ghz speed im pretty sure switch could handle it, sure the battery drain would be higher in handheld but in dock mode there would be no change.

Did anyone find out if having an oc profile set up for BOTW in sys-clk still lets the game overclock itself for loading screens, or does it override that?

In botw v1.6.0 (and maybe mario odyssey 1.3.0) the game seems to switch over to 1.7ghz CPU when the game is on loading screens, then switching back to 1ghz once they're done

Very interesting. This may be how they improved loading times in the new update

So Nintendo is hacking their own console instead of improving the code?

Hypocrites.

This might be because the game code was first made for the Wii U then ported to the Switch, so is probably a mess. Unlike Mario Oddysey that was made solely for the Switch.
Mario Odyssey does the exact same thing, and increasing the CPU speed impoves the loading times of almost every switch game :P

I have to think these games don't have the GPU doing very much during a loading screen, which would make heat from the CPU boost safer to deal with. The tegra GPU doesn't seem like it wastes much energy/heat when idle regardless of the clock setting, as you can see in 2D games.

@SylverReZ, I dislike the kind of drm where you have to play single player games online all the time bc of some verification bs

@Xdqwerty, Don't use games that have Easy Anti-Cheat as its been exploited many times.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

@SylverReZ, i think they have been doing that since late 2000s

Either that or their old games were unfinished aswell but we can't notice it

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So that version is semi rare
