hi. I've been out of the 3ds scene for a few years now. Is it still possible to play cia installed games online without being banned?

So I've got an Old 3DS with B9S which I'm trying to uninstall in preparation for selling. Following the guide, I've got up to step 17 on section 1 (the part where you try to boot the .firm from the exefs), but upon trying to boot the firm, instead of booting to the home menu it just stays frozen on GodMode9's file explorer screen and is completely unresponsive.

I see the guide states the 3DS could brick if I use the uninstall script under these circumstances, so I figured someone here knows what the problem might be? If it makes any difference, I've just flashed a fresh 9.2 EUR ctrnand image, also through GM9, but everything boots and runs perfectly fine when powering on so I don't really get it.
Did you ever do a region change or install any custom system titles? You can't uninstall CFW then, or the system will be bricked.

hey guys, is it possible to run 3ds roms on my new 3ds xl using my Flashcard (R4ISDHC Dual-Core 2017)? If Yes, what do i have to do? If No, is there another way besides the Flashcard i mentioned? the card plays ds games without any problems but it always gets stuck trying to load 3ds games. Id a game is too big it gets stuck even when it is showing the 3ds game within the game browser.
Thanks in advance

3ds roms cannot be ran using that cart. tou got sky3ds+ gateway and stargate. and all those are overpriced pieces of garbage. You can use cfw and cia files more easy and cheaper.

So... I looked everywhere and am not sure why this is so hard for me to figure out. I just got the R4iSDHC Dual-core 2019. with some troubleshooting (no idea what I'm doing) I was able to download the available kernel from r41sdhc website and install it and I put one game (.3ds file) on the card to try. everything seems to work fine and I see my game in the games menu but I cant get it to start. I pressed all the buttons and nothing happens. am I dumb? am I missing something obvious?

The cheapest and most recommended way to play 3DS games is installing them as .CIA files with custom firmware with the guide:
https://3ds.hacks.guide/
Flashcarts that play .3DS files are expensive and can do less than free CFW.

Oh nice, that guide now has the addition of testing if it's safe(-ish) to uninstall custom firmware.

When you try launching the extracted and decrypted NATIVE_FIRM and it freezes on you, that means it's unsafe to uninstall custom firmware because there are unsigned or mismatching signatures for some of your system titles. CFW ignores those signatures; OFW checks for them. Stuff like region changing, HOME Menu editing, and frakenfirm (whether accidental or on purpose) all fall under changes in signatures (tickets, SecureInfo, certs?).

At it's current setup, you will brick the 3DS if the CFW is uninstalled.

Now that’s really interesting. I did not even know GodMode9 allows booting the native firm without CFW loaded. A clever idea; temporary reactivating the signature checks for testing.

Do you know if it is really the same like totally uninstalling CFW? Non-legit titles still show up in this mode but obviously do not start:
System Menu said:
The software title could not
be launched.
Please download it again
from Nintendo eShop.
Data Management crashes when trying to load the software list (each for DSiWare and 3DS):
System Menu said:
An error has occurred,
forcing the software to close.
The system will now restart.
(Unsaved data may be lost.)
[ok]

Neither did I until today. If you try launching AGB or TWL firm, the 3DS gets the "An error has occurred" as no games are passed off to them. This is nice that gm9 does this.

Let's say you uninstalled custom firmware but have second thoughts about removing it in case the 3DS bricks. You can eject your SD card, add back SafeB9SInstaller.firm with the boot9strap payload, reinsert card, chainload to SB9SI, and rehack the 3DS as a last chance.

Do you know if it is really the same like totally uninstalling CFW? Non-legit titles still show up in this mode but obviously do not start:
I'm going to go with a yes that this test is basically like not having CFW. My n3DSXL with its restored "bad" sysnand image from that region changing + no cfw testing freezes just like @Voxel's o3DS. My niece's n3DS that hasn't been used like a guinea pig boots just fine with the extracted & decrypted native .firm.

Hmm.. I wonder if it's possible to rename that NATIVE_FIRM as boot.firm, put copies on both CTRNAND and SD card, and make the SD version hidden. This would be like dehacking yours without really removing cfw.

Data Management crashes when trying to load the software list (each for DSiWare and 3DS):
I notice this on the n3DS for a DSiWare NDS converted into CIA and installed on HOME Menu. The first error message happens due to not having a real ticket.

For the second error, I think it has something to do with title.db and import.db found in the Nintendo 3DS folder. System Settings probably can't verify hashes for those homebrew titles and pirate games, or maybe the fake tickets cause a sort of panic.

***

Edit - I can verify that NATIVE_FIRM renamed as boot.firm works in CTRNAND. Better yet, you don't need the one on SD card. This idea might prose a problem in case of future system updates.

Thank you for the reply. I'm kinda annoyed cause I thought I did my research but clearly not enough. It says its for the 3DS but I guessing its to play regular DS games on the 3DS? I have already tried hacking my 3DS using that guide and failed. I even had a friend who is more knowledgeable at these things try to hack it but couldn't do it because my 3DS is "too new" as he says. Is it still possible to buy a flashcart that can play 3DS games on my 3DS? I'm not that good as hacking stuff, I just wanted something simple I can drag the files to. Is it even possible?

There is no such thing as a too new 3DS or too new firmware. Any firmware can be hacked. If you have any questions or problems, when trying the guide, just ask. Following it line by line will lead to success. Okay, the guide is long and the amount of information may be overwhelming at first, but this is just because it goes so much in detail (step-by-step guide).

You won't find a flashcart that allows the same drag and drop experience for the 3DS mode as for the DS mode. What comes near to such a thing is Sky3DS+ but it is around $70 and really can't do as much as the free CFW.

So i ask here becouse this is a pretty noob question. I just discover, becouse is bean a long time since last time i use the thing, that Ninjahax (apperently) can still be used on 11.9 so my question is: can i install CFW on a New 2DS XL freash out of the box by using Ninjahax? Or at least another free entry point? I ask becouse i honestly don't feel to buy a flashcard for installing CFW on the console.

You can't install CFW from userland over 11.2. But you can use Fredminer or Frogminer.

Completly forgot that Ninjhax is just userland. One thing for the first installation the stock SD card could be ok? I ask becouse at the moment i use a a different SD card on my current systen, so i don't know if the stock SD card (normaly is 4GB if im not mistake) is enough for the initial installation and system transfer (becouse i wanna maintain my NNID, unless there is a extra way for de-link the account so can be linked to the new console easy).
