Personally, I thought they'd make a more "kid-friendly" version of the switch in preparation for the pokemon games. Smaller, more shock/shatter protection, slightly cheaper. Make it cheaper to push pokemon games. It's nintendo, so that's my guess. They'll come out with a more powerful one closer to when the ps5 comes out.

I would totally be on board for some kind of a mid-gen upgrade. Nintendo's own games like Mario Odyssey, Zelda, and Splatoon 2 heavily utilize dynamic resolution scaling, and tend to suffer from aliasing and pop-in - all things that could be mitigated with a Switch Pro.

I'd love to see a model that can achieve current docked specs in handheld mode, and improved performance in its docked mode - perhaps locking to 1080p or increasing draw distances and the like, maybe smoothing out frame rates like PS4 Pro's Boost Mode does. Don't know how feasible that is right now, considering the form factor would likely be constrained to remain 100% compatible with current Joy-Cons.

Some kind of revision is likely, though...the DS Lite came out 2 years after the original, for example.

Nintendo never really care about specs or graphics, so I very much doubt were going to see something like the Xbox One X or PS4 Pro.

I suspect later models might come with a slight spec bump, such as more internal storage or have a re-design.

There's no way they're doing a "Pro" Switch.
It will be a "New Switch", in other words, very modest spec boost with some sort of toyish gimmick.

Nintendo is a toy company, not a tech one.

Remove screen bezels while retaining the same power consumption. Tadaaa, improved display power efficiency.

Would I have liked a new revision of the switch before I bought 2 and hacked them? Yes, one with bigger screen and xl joycons would have been nice.
Would I now buy a new switch? No. Nintendo never committed to the stronger revisions of their consoles. Even worse. They make their games for their weakest iteration. Look at the 3ds. Most newer games dropped the 3d so that 2ds owners don't miss out. Only 2 real new 3ds games since the console came out.

We've heard rumors about this before and here's another one. According to the Wall Street Journal a Switch Pro is coming out later this year. Whether or not it comes out this year I'm sure that a Switch Pro was always going to come out sooner or later. When looking at the Switch's raw power it's pretty shit.

This is a mixture of speculation and what I personally would like to see in a Switch Pro.

- Tegra X2 (or better)
- Better battery
- Better heat dissapation (this and the above point allows the clock rate to go up)
- 128 GB storage at least (32GB in 2017, seriously Nintendo?)
- Reduced input latency
- Noteworthy games updated to take advantage of the superior hardware (BotW, Bayonetta, Doom etc.)

If the Switch Pro turns out to be real I'll probably buy one, transfer my Nintendo account to it then hack my current Switch.

I would not expect them to go with a new chip, the one they have is underclocked anyway so if they were to cool it better then they should be able to just release a version that runs @ a higher speed while keeping the same tegra chip.

That seems to me like the most realistic option.

They have already been talking about improving on the screen.

So I expect if they release a new version:
Higher clocked tegra chip
1080p screen that is more vibrant
Better battery to make up for the increased power consumption
Hardware redessign (Slimmer, larger or more ergonomic)
and ??? feature (Nintendo usually like to introduce some kind of new feature to their new hardware revisions, "HD rumble+" or something we could not even imagine)

And according to Wall Street Journal Japan (shown at 00:17) a Switch upgrade is coming. Digital Foundry made their own list of improvements they'd like to see.

In order for a Switch "Pro" to be something I would consider buying, it need to have:
  • A better dock, something that's not as bulky, a simple plug to make the switch to TV-handheld without covering the whole system. Maybe just add a back-wall in the dock with a fan for cooling, but don't make the dock cover the Switch's screen.
  • Make the joycons more comfortable for people with actual non-kiddo hands.
Those shits are really small for adults.
Maybe drop the multi-player mentality and make the left joycon have a proper D-Pad, make it a little bit bigger so the hands don't cram, and the right one must have bigger buttons too.
  • Better battery life.
  • Be Hackable :tpi:

Personally, I'd like a better screen. Push the size towards the currently HUGE bezels and bump it up to 1080p. Adult-sized joycons, better cooling with bumped up clock speed and a better battery would be sweet. Using a Tegra X2 is probably asking too much;/

I completely agree. Playing in portable mode is fine for most games but for people with big hands like me games which require fast reactions like Smash Ultimate are borderline unplayable on higher difficulties in portable mode.

You're probably joking here but fuck it. I suggest you buy a revised Switch shortly after launch and make sure your younger siblings or children will never touch it. Store it somewhere they can't reach and hide it in the box which your toaster or some other kitchen appliance came in. Maybe a year later a kernal/trustzone exploit will be released.

so its still the same baseless rumor (basically boils down to 'they did it in the past so they think they'll do it in the future') used almost entirely to weaken their sales for no good reason, cause now there's people waiting for the pro version...

I'm surprised everyone assumes a new model would be stronger or more "pro". From the DS to the DSlite, 3ds to 3dsxl, they made tweaks that everyone loved. But from the gamecube to 2nd iteration, wii to 2nd and 3rd iteration, and 3ds to 2ds, it was about reducing cost. the eventual new switch might just be some tweaks to streamline play and minimize cost. Comfier joycons, smaller-but-better screen, kick-stand that actually works (or removal of it completely), slightly better hardware for UI enhancements, more kid-friendly shell, newer dock with smash in mind, these kinds of things are what I'm expecting.

Hah! They're probably going to call it, New Nintendo Switch XL, like they did the New 3DS XL, and it won't be a problem until I list it for sale and I get a long email about how I lied that it was New but it wasn't.
Thank you Nintendo for the naming convention you used. Well played. (True story, a guy wrote me a super long, hateful email, about how I scammed him by posting "New Nintendo 3DS XL" when it wasn't new....
