ReiNX or SXOS are just "copycats" of atmosphere, whit aditional features but a little bit outdated, atmosphere is the way to go if no playing backups, sxos is the way to go if playing backups, reinx in this moment is not really the way to go as you can do everything reinx can do in atmosphere, but more stable

Except that couldn't be FARTHER from the truth. ReiNX is not a "copycat" of Atmosphere. Sure it uses Atmosphere as a base but it's much more. As for stability it's super stable. And who said Atmo can't run backups? If you have the sig patches of course it can run backups. Also ReiNX is not outdated, just recently an update was made that made it compatible with the latest OFW, something that not even the "almighty" SX OS has accomplished yet

Is the new SX OS beta version EmuNAND already being tested in the wild? Have there been posts about it at this point?
Afaik, there is people using the new SD Emunand (and people that even updated the sysnand and stay at a lower version the Emunand). I remember people asking about how to change the old Emunand to the SD. You sure can find those posts with little search.
I cannot confirm myself how it works since I don't use SXOX (at this moment I don't have the need to use any CFW), but I really feel that theyr Emunand is the way to go about what you ask for, being objective.

Edit: oh but you should know that SXOX can't be used with the latest OFW. If you already updated, you'll have to wait untill they update.

One of the telemetry fields sent to Nintendo is "max size of the console's NAND" so the SX OS way of emunand which partitions your NAND is obviously highly unsafe, and no otherworking emuNAND solution is available as of yet. Currently, the only thing you can do is wait until a proper solution is out (might take a few months or more).

Or go completely tabula rasa on your switch, which means you keep it clean, do a complete NAND backup of your clean NAND, then do whatever piracy related thing you want to do without ever connecting to the internet, then after you're done pirating, you restore your clean NAND and go back online. Rinse and repeat everytime you want to do something illegal on your switch. Backing up/restoring NAND is done in hekate outside the switch's OS so it should be invisible to Nintendo, as long as you don't go online in between.

Keep in mind that all of your saves are on your NAND, so don't do anything during your "dark" phase that you'd regret losing when you go back to your clean online NAND. Also, backing up and resoring NANDs takes an hour or two, so factor in some time.

Have fun.
Except you aren't supposed to go online in emuNAND, as that would completely defeat the purpose, hence the NAND size doesn't matter.

I know they are not copycats because of that i said "copycats" and not copycats, is just that i dont know the english word for a thing that is using another thing as its base, and yes you can play backups is atmosphere but sx is more designed for that feature with the hdd xci loading, and yes i know sx os dont run in 6.2 because if that i said "additional features but a little bit outdated", if ReiNX was updated sorry, i didn't know that, ReiNX is stable but is not as stable as atmosphere, atmosphere is triying to beat nintendo in stability.*yes that is a joke*

I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the discussion so far.

My final decision is shaping up to be backing up a clean NAND, using Atmosphere with sigpatches offline, and waiting to see what 2019 brings.

Only thing I still don't know is how exactly to keep my fuses intact so I can downgrade. AFAIK this was performed by ChoiDuJour at some point, but I dunno if this is still used or if there is a better method tied to Atmosphere or Hekate.

As long as you don't boot into OFW, your fuses should be fine. Choi does this by activating AutoRCM whenever you update your firmware
