Another fan of the more streamlined portable games. The full games have a lot of stuff that build a stronger atmosphere and all that, but there's also moments of meaningless bs that I couldn't care less. The series at it's basics has a very distinct style to carry it. Infinity fixed a lot of issues with classes and weapons on PSP2, and the kinda-stamina PP system is more evenly done than the PA spam > Photon Charger > repeat from PSP (I believe PSU is the same). Combo system is still bad tho.

Anyway, any semblance of freshness this game could have is lost in being an update of a game from 8 years ago. And yet there's nothing like it to play. It's either memorize like 10 or so important options in the menus, use the english guide or wait for a patch.

The game's playable with nothing but PSP2 experience, which solves basic equip, mission and partner select at least, but you have to look up class abilities since the lists are way bigger and really fumble in the menu to understand rebirth, and you're not understanding new story or mission text. But the combat mechanics changes are so superior, and the new techs, new equips, new areas, new enemies and new race all make it hard to go back after playing it.

Indeed, it was meant for the menu patch cries. It would be a nice to have, but the game never gave much more than a overview on it's mechanics so you might as well look up.

I agree with this. I'm currently playing Phantasy Star NOVA on Vita. The English patch barely covers the first chapter of the game, but at lease most of the menus and items are in English. So ya, can't understand the story much, but at least I can play the damn thing.

If JamRules thinks that he can release the game in the next few months, it's worth the wait, but if it will be another year, then I would vote yes on a no story patch just in order to play with the game a bit or play in multiplayer mode until the story is fully translated.

I personally like psp1. Just like Fefo - i'm not a fan of the combo mechanic. While it works quite well for weapons (1-2 hits+PA) - techs are somewhat clunky, since you cannot use the same tech for combo build and Triangle finisher.

Masterforce in psp1 with shag hejiz was very enjoyable to play. in Psp2 forces are an utter joke. in psp2i they are decent again and even tho tech use is a bit clunky - it's still very enjoyable. So, just like a lot of ppl here - i want 'raw' version with menus and tech/passive skill names asap as well.

But of course i'll wait as much as needed, it's not like Jam or anyone else on the project owes me anything ;)

Likely Scenario: Partial Menu Patch got released but the aforementioned bugs/glitches still persists and people are going to complain,"Why did they release this at this state?!" LOL!

Like Jeez, the fan translation is still alive so just let them work on it at their own pace, sure it's taking a long time to finish but there's no point in rushing them or to play your self entitled card because they owe you or anyone who aren't working on this project nothing!

Now, when the fan translation group is officially or unofficially stating that they are giving up on this project then by all means let them know that we want to have at least the remnants of their work for us to experience and so it would not go to waste.

If anyone tells something like this to JamRules, then I'll be the first one to call him asshole. For now, because you're assuming that anyone would act like this only to make yourself look like a white knight, then I'm afraid the only asshole here is you at the moment. JamRules doesn't need anyone to speak for himself and also this is a forum, people are allowed kindly insert their input, hence the nature of this Internet tool.

Please respect him, I am sure you have never effort, to do something useful for people, you will never understand it! You only think of wanting to play it, you're very selfish.

The short summary is that the technical issues that I have been working on recently and currently looking at would apply to a partial/menu patch anyway. The main bottleneck is getting these issues resolved, not preparing the translated text.
If it was going to take years for the story text to be translated then a partial patch may have meaning, but as it stands the main issue isn't with preparing the text.

What's my favorite meal?

Well that makes sense, thank you for the explanation. Best of luck in getting that technical issue resolved.

White what? Who said i was speaking up for him? can't a person give their thoughts on the whole partial patch debacle? It even says in the introduction of this post it that they'll release it when it's done and completed, you can have your discussion on wanting/wishing on playing this game partially but don't shut others down or demean them for voicing their concerns on the same subject matter, if there's an ACTUAL A-Hole here it's definitely you.

Edit:
Oh and Look, even JamRules addressed the fact that even if he did release the partial patch it'll be riddled with issues, just like I first stated..and I'm the A-Hole for pointing out that scenario.. SMH.

Just graduated army basic combat training today. Damn, was really hoping either psp2i, God Eater 2, Yakuza Black Panther or one of the Tales of games would be translated when I got out. Oh well I'm bringing my PSP Go to advanced individual training for 18 weeks. No rush obviously, Keep up the good work till then (and after lol) @JamRules

Uh... You've been out for a long time. First, Absolute Zero quit out of the blue and took out whatever Tales of translations he had online, as well as not allowing anyone to taking over his work. God Eater 2 is in hiatus probably, as Sky has quit translating games (and there are some more things I could say on this exact one). GE2 is a non-issue for me, however, as there's an English release on Steam already.

Hello!
Are you the creator of PSP2i Suite program?
Is there a plan of sharing this program for translation for other languages?
My main language is not English and I want to translate PSP2i to my main language and I want to know that can I use your program.
Thank you.

Sorry it's taking a (very long) while for the patch to be completed.
Thanks for the support and stay well :yaypsp:

Yes, I have been writing my own tools for this.
As for sharing them, it's something that I probably won't be considering until after everything is done and our patch is out and tested.
That said the tools are kinda awful at the moment... they would need a lot of cleanup for others to actually be able to use them.

I see im not the only one with these habits lol. write crappy tools, dont share because crappy, never get bothered to clean up. Totally the best workflow in existence.

Indeed

As more and more stuff gets tacked onto it the UI has gotten so bad that even I forget how to use it.
The performance is also pretty terrible, plus validation and error handling is somewhat non-existent.
Maybe if I ever do another project I'll aim to write something decent to begin with so it might actually be sharable...

Just coming in again to check up on how things are going with the process. Still am really glad to know Jam is still working on this project. I do have a few questions I feel I should ask.

Considering the the patch will eventually get released, for both PSP original hardware and PPSSPP, will you need to have a modded PSP in order to apply this patch? I've heard sometime ago rumors going around about some patch has already been released, but you need a modded PSP to apply the patch? I wonder if it'll be the same process of getting the JP dlc in PSP2.

Also, the multiplayer/online aspect. Since this game official servers shutdown along with PSP2 will you still be able to connect using the ad hoc feature with the english patch still applied?

How exactly will this work? I'm aware this may result to some testing of course, but I'd like to know eventually since I bought a physical copy of Infinity waiting for the day, Jam releases this patch. :) I'm looking forward to knowing more results about this progress. I'll closely be checking here from time to time as usual. ^_^
