So, reading all the topic, I can conclude that:

- Auto RCM (black screen) doesn't charge the console;
- After payload, it changes normally with the console ON;
- It charges in standby mode normally;
- If you turn it off normally, it doesn't charge;
- If you turn it off by pressing POWER for 12+ seconds, it charges normally, and doesn't drain battery if you leave it like this;
- After you turn it off, just press ON to enter RCM mode (black screen) again;
- If you let your console "die", you have to charge it for minutes or hours before try to startup it again.

Is really it?

Almost, you got a few things wrong. I'll just comment on that.

It charges in standby mode normally;

If, by standby mode, you mean sleep mode, then yes, it will charge normally.

- If you turn it off by pressing POWER for 12+ seconds, it charges normally, and doesn't drain battery if you leave it like this;

ANY time the console gets charged while it is off, it will enter automatically enter RCM if AutoRCM is enabled. So No, it won't charge normally and yes, it will drain the battery if left like that.

I tend to forget to charge my Switch a lot (I blame getting too used to the PS Vita's godly screen off battery life) so the battery on my Switch tends to die quite often. I have AutoRCM enabled but I've never actually had problems getting my Switch to boot back up if I find the battery completely drained. It does take a little bit but if I just leave it plugged in then it'll eventually get enough power for me to boot it up and then continue charging while in the operating system.

I had 2 switches with auto rcm.
Trinket m0 and auto rcm.

Both became soldid brick. Let for days to charge and would not power on.

Only fix was to open the console, disconnect battery and using usb cable to charge the battery directly for 10 min or more.

Connecting red with red and black with black.

I just left my switch dead in auto rcm for two weeks. Charged it with adapter for an hour it turned on. What crap thread
if this works ill be so relieved. have had it in the closet for a week not plugged in assuming no sleep mode either its dead as a door nail turns on you see nintendo and a battery icon showing red as can be and then black screen.

its pluggedinto usb c now ill leave it there for an hour or two and then report back - mixed opinions on whats going to happen unless people are just trolls and not simply waiting 1-2 hours after letting it die. i mean if you put yourself into this position it couldnt be that bad to wait 1-2 hours to see if it will accept the charge.

however based on several peoples responses about the usb pd bs they make it sound like 1-100 hours wont make a difference. clearly something needs to be clarified what does and doesn't work. ANYONE. while I wait this 1-2 hours :P

Actually having this issue right now I shut off my switch via the Power Menu despite having charge and for some reason the battery is drained. So right now I held the power button for 15 seconds and left it in the adapter hoping it gets enough juice to disable AutoRCM really wish I knew about this or was told smh

I think I ruined my switch. I always use autoRCM and it's been working fine for me for a long while. New firmware update removed my autoRCM. So I set autorcm again. Every time I play in handheld mode my switch ALWAYS dies after 2-5 mins. Even if it's on 100% I get the low battery icon then my switch dies. But it doesn't die it just forces me to sleep mode so I can turn it back instantly and battery still shows at 100% or 90% I use atmosphere

at least search it up...
so it kept dying every second now 4-5 seconds so I recorded it but after it kept dying, it started working fine now. However after that video. My joycons keeps dying now. So my switch works now but now my joycons dies when connected to the switch. When removed, the joycons are fine. I change to another pair of joycons I have and now everything works again. lol wtf

If you didn't already figure this out...
If your Switch has autoRCM, and you do not send a payload, it will just show a black screen when it boots. This black screen is indistinguishable from the Switch just being off. The system will not charge while on this black screen. When you plug in the system to charge it, the system tries to power on. However, since you're not injecting a payload, it just stays on the black screen. Since it can't charge on the black screen, the system does not get charged. The way to fix this is to plug in the system, hold down the power button for a good 10 seconds to turn it off (since it's on the black screen), and wait five minutes for it to charge. Then unplug it from the charge and turn the system on while injecting the payload. Once you have the system actually booted, you can put it back on the charger to let the battery charge the rest of the way.
If it doesn't work the first time, don't panic. You probably just turned the system ON whenever you held the power button instead of OFF. It's impossible to tell whether the system is on or off without injecting the payload. If it won't boot with the payload injected, it means the battery is still dead and to try charging it again. And if you're using something like an SX Pro dongle, make sure the dongle is charged as well (takes less than five seconds to charge it).
