OK then. Define short, in terms of electronics.

Positive directly connected to negative with no resistance.

If you pull too many amps from a battery it will cause excess heat, the higher the amps and longer you do it will do more damage to the battery. If it breaks down enough you could cause an internal short & catch fire.

When electric cars crash and damage one of the cells, they can keep catching fire for a week as each cell damages the one next to it.

Now whether the overclock is likely to cause thermal runaway

Or just reduce how much charge the battery will hold, is something you'll have to take your own risk on.

The quicker you charge and drain, the lower the capacity they will hold.

Jesus folks.... why do everyone jump the shark and say a simple overclock will make the battery explode? I overclocked my phone like nobodies business, you know what? No fire! And my phone doesn't have a fan....
because people are uninformed and like to spread fud
they basically dont know sh*t

By all means, if you put BIG CLAMERS on to your battery as in the youtube video, you can crank power pretty hard. Else your tiny cables in the Switch won't do much.

hence the battery will also heat up more which will add to the overall temperature of all components.
While docked the switch up the clock speed (more heat), charges the battery (more heat) and slows down the cooling fan (less heat removed). Besides that chips thermal throttle so we dont really need to worry too much about excess heat because clearly the switch can handle it, and the cpu/gpu would slow down at certain temps if heat does become an issue.

At most, OC the portable mode could lead to cpu instability (only while overclocked) from voltage drops if the battery cant keeps up. The battery will not short like the other user claimed, not sure where he pulled that idea from... I highly suspect the switch's battery would be able to handle this no issues, however play time would drop significantly from the higher usage to something closer to an hour.

Why is everyone saying this would fry the switch? While docked the fan is barely even used despite the higher clock speeds and charging the battery at the same time.
In docked mode, the switches CPU speed remains at 1ghz. Its the gpu speed that is increased only. Having both GPU and CPU speeds higher such as 1.9ghz for cpu and 1ghz for gpu may not be too healthy for it in the long term (The fan seems to just about be ok to keep it under control for some games even without the speed increase, let alone at the 1.9ghz cpu/1ghz gpu).

ITT: People who think you cant overclock handhelds even though the Vita/PSTV had it

the clocks are primarily for battery longevity. Though I definitely would not run docked mode clocks in portable mode

I have no words.
