Positive directly connected to negative with no resistance.
If you pull too many amps from a battery it will cause excess heat, the higher the amps and longer you do it will do more damage to the battery. If it breaks down enough you could cause an internal short & catch fire.
When electric cars crash and damage one of the cells, they can keep catching fire for a week as each cell damages the one next to it.

Or just reduce how much charge the battery will hold, is something you'll have to take your own risk on.
The quicker you charge and drain, the lower the capacity they will hold.
