I got a similar problem once, I used to get the options "Start Software, Download, Cancel"
Then suddenly, I lost the option to refuse the update (when I was switching from xci's to nsp's)

I learned this was because of the discrepancy of the game versions, making your save game incompatible with the version you are trying to run.
Anyway to work around it

I personally just went back to using the XCI because I didn't want to bother troubleshooting it :P
Maybe getting a working copy of the latest update nsp might've fixed it, but I was lazy and wanted to play.

I had this problem with botw in SX OS.
In my case it was the DLC's version that didn't match the game's version.
Anyway, even without the "start software" option, I was able to play pressing B on the update screen and trying to play again.

Edit: SX OS 1.4

I'm running firmware 5.1.0 with SX OS v1.4, and this is what I did:

1. Install base game nsp.
2. Update to latest version using update nsp.
3. Install DLC nsp.

All of this was done offline. I haven't had any issues relating to software updates and all DLC worked fine with this method.

After installing the game update.nsp it's asking for a system update in order for me to start the game.

Is this a known issue even if you are on the latest software? Also how would I do that if I have SXOS install and autorcm. It boots automatically to sxos
Unless it specifically says system update, I don't think it is.
Maybe the update nsp you installed wasn't the latest.
