Maybe add to the OP that if you have B9S and Luma 99% of the time it’s safe to update? This seems to be asked a lot.
What do you think of the below? That's what is there now
Is it safe to update to 11.7?

I hacked a friend's 2DS a long time ago but now his SD card died and he lost everything. I assume he only updated the 3DS firmware and I can't remember what was on it. what do I do?

Does his console boot up? If so, hold Select on boot and see what version Luma he has.

If he has 7.0.5 or less, tell him to follow https://3ds.guide/a9lh-to-b9s then https://3ds.guide/finalizing-setup

If he has 7.1 tell him to follow https://3ds.guide/updating-b9s then https://3ds.guide/finalizing-setup

Anything higher, he just needs to download Luma 9.0 (https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases) and put boot.firm on the root of his SD card then follow https://3ds.guide/finalizing-setup

If it doesn't boot up, put arm9loaderhax.bin from Luma 7.0.5 on the SD card and try to boot up again, if it doesn't work try boot.firm from Luma 7.1, if that doesn't work try boot.firm from Luma 9.0.

So I'm trying to do a system transfer using the DSiWare method.

Problem is that when I load the DSiWare on the target system it ends up loading DSiMenu ++ instead of boot9strap.

I don't even understand this as the target system shouldn't have cfw on it. I've tried deleting the DSiMenu++ stuff off the SD card and it's still doing it.

Any help?

By the way, if I did something wrong during the copying of the DSiWare save and all that, I should be able to system transfer back to the source 3DS in a week and take another shot at it, right? CFW should still be on the source 3DS, right?

The boot.nds file should be b9stool, not DSiMenu++

If the system transfer worked and you have access to the game there's no need to do more system transfers. You can simply restore the pre-transfer NAND backup on the source system, dump the game to SD on the source system (system settings->Data Management->DSiWare), put the SD card in the target system, and do the reverse (restore game from SD to system memory). But I think the answer is in the above post, you just have the wrong nds file.

Will homebrew my 3DS tomorrow! Just a question:
How does VC injecting work in 3DS? Is it the same as the Wii U VC where there's a pre-existing script and it creates it's own game icon in the home screen? Are there any guides how to do it?

Pretty much any game you would want to play has already been injected, you just need to find the cia of it.

Whenever I try to play a CIA game it crashes. It's always the Picross games so far, E7, E8 and 2nd round. I don't have access to the RAM dump as of now, sorry. What can I do?

Hey guys - so I followed the link by @Quantumcat to get freeshop set-up and installed. It has most of the games, but I see a few are missing such as Kirby Battle Royale.

Did I provide a bad key site? Or what do I need to do in order to have that game show in freeshop?

Does it show up in the 3DS database titlekeys site? If not, that means nobody bought it and dumped the key. You'll have to find a cia for it and install it with FBI.
