Hey, I'm new here. I have been doing this method that the op is saying for every game that I pirated and haven't been ban yet. I also have another switch for just in case that I do get ban. I know it's coming eventually. But for now I am playing all my pirate games off line on CFW and only go online if I need an update or whenever I play fortnite on OFW. It's working for now.
I've been following this method and I haven't been banned. Yet. Will report if anything changes. I understand that it isn't ideal but this does "seem" to be the safer way to update backups for people using SX OS. I haven't tried LayeredFS so I cannot comment on that. When you decide to use custom firmware or take the red pill of running backups, you need to accept the ban hammer. It will come. It's just a matter of time.

Another useful thread from me, i've found a way to update your backups with the least ban risk !
How ?
1- Play the game for few moments
2- Leave the game and turn off your Nintendo Switch
3- Boot your Switch by loading the payload while pressing + and select OFW
4- Configure Internet and update your games from the menu by: + button then choose Update, THEN DON'T FORGET TO REMOVE THE INTERNET CONFIGURATION !!!!
5- After the update installed turn off again the switch and boot SX OS CFW
6- Enjoy your updated games without worring about getting banned !

What exactly would get you banned? Downloading updates for games you don't own?

Makes Sense to me, but maybe it stores something like the cert or anything else at the switch. I wont update my "backups", cause I don't need the update and hope for a safer solution in a few weeks.
Maybe they won't ban a header that asks for 2,3,4,5 of the same updates. But when the same header asks for 50, they'll assume know it's a ROM. Like everyone else tho, we just don't really know.
Headers are not used when requesting game updates. You can update all of the headerless dumps provided by BBB.
I see you can download, but I don't think that confirms they are not sent. Like someone else mentioned earlier. They could be just ignored. I've seen on the ban thread a couple of people stating they did nothing but update ROMS to get a ban. This could be that they did it on the custom firmware tho, and maybe that's trackable. I'll stay away from updates for a month or so.

If they are detected, its not in the same sense as playing a game that requires an Internet connection. Also, if multiple people go online with the same header, it will most definitely lead to a ban like in the 3DS scene.

I really couldn't care less what you do to your own system, but posting this here like its going to help people? I can't wait till your "method" gets you all banned and they run you out of this site. Why don't you go into a second hand gaming store like CEX in the UK. Buy the Switch game you want to update in the official firmware then return the game back within 2 days or whatever the return policy is. You could run the original game aswell if it makes a difference until you return it.
