The FIFA 08 vs Pro Evo 2008 Thread

Ok, I've been playing FIFA and Pro Evo is released this month, so here's the official "versus" thread, created to keep the arguments tidy

FIFA 08. Played it on Pro (default difficulty) for a few hours and I was close to smashing the fuck out of my controller! Waaay too hard to break throught the defence. I started to get to grips with slow build-ups, pulling their defence around to make openings, but having the ball nicked off your toes after all your hard work is a fucking piss-take! It really started to stress me out.

I was in total agreement with the IGN review, then I dropped it to semi-pro and it plays much, much better. It still has some of the old FIFA problems (eg. players under pressure standing like a stiff cock instead of running towards a pass) but they occur much less and I can forgive them (most of the time).

As a PES fan, its nice to play a good FIFA again. I've been loving PES for years, but I always wanted the licenses as well as the gameplay. FIFA 08 delivers the goods. I'll have to play PES 2008 properly before picking my favourite, but this is a damn good game of football.

PS. The graphics piss on PES (yes they do fanboys!)

I've been playing FIFA 08 on PC, since I decided to give my computer a second upgrade in the space of a year (Grand Total: $3450) instead of buying a next gen console. The game is stupidly a port of the PS2 version, rather than the 360 version, which in this day and age I would consider to be much more appropriate. I didnt buy an 8800 for nothing! I used to flog FIFA 07. I won the English Cup and League Cup with Chesterfield (From League 1 at the time) on World Class (Extra Hard) beating numerous EPL teams in 5-0 floggings along the way. Now on 08 much like mentioned by jimmy j, the defense is so hard to break. I find that the opposition slips through my defence easily on challenges that should indicate I would be the one ending up with the ball, and when i eventually get it back and push up the field, their entire team seem to just appear at the back, and there is a wall of 7 or 8 players against my 2 strikers. Then they soo easily snatch the ball from me with little tap challenges. I really don't like it. I demand the 360 version on PC.

I played the FIFA08 pc demo on my 6800ultra on high, and it looked on par with 360 version, and nothing like the ps2 version....

I own the PS2 version of the FIFA 08 and I have to agree with you both if you put the difficulty on Pro the defence becomes super human although saying that I did win 5-0 last night

lol but if you take it down to semi-pro it becomes to easy theres no middle ground its like jumping from a game to real life in 1 difficulty level

I played the FIFA08 pc demo on my 6800ultra on high, and it looked on par with 360 version, and nothing like the ps2 version....

I am possitive you will find that the PC version to be the same or similar to the PS2 version. Nothing close to next-gen for graphics. In fact there are numerous petitions on the internet complaining about this issue.

Yeah the Grafik of Fifa 08 sucks bad

V its even worse than from Fifa 07 !

if you look at the screenshots at the Fifa homepage and than compare to the pc version of fifa 08 you will have pretty much problems finding anything that looks similiar ...

Would be best if noone would buy Fifa and goes to Pro Evolution Soccer so that those idiots see that its no good what they are doing !

P.S. On Computer Fifa is nearly unplayable without a Gamepad

they made it so much for Console that you can't use several features and whatever ...

Also I've noticed they still have the old West Ham logo... (on the PC version at least) OH and there is several times it suggests to press 8 to do a particular command. my 8, f8 and numberpad 8 do not do what it says the command will do...

I brought fifa 08 for the ps3 even after the sh*t demo. I didnt enjoy it at all. The game is a bit better than the demo, but thats bout it. Its too slow for me and impossible to pass defenders. Pro evo all the way.

Tried both demos on XBL...PES wins hands down. More fun, and that's what matters most.

What do you guys think of the Master League in PES? I've read a few reviews which talked about how the Master League was "still" crap and needs an overhaul, but I always thought it was one of the game's strongest points. In fact, I think it's one of the best gamemodes in videogameland.

My friend and I ritualistically start a new co-op Master League every October. And it's a league that runs until next October and the new PES release. Frickin' sweet!
