SciresM teases 5.0 homebrew

Scires posted a short video showing homebrew working on 5.0.1 with a side note that while it doesn't properly reboot into the Switch's OS yet, he hopes to have it working soon without too much trouble!

Currently he has replaced the Album button with custom code, in this case the Homebrew Menu, and shows off a Hello World demo launched from there.

Edit: A comment on his twitter post shows someone playing Tetris from the HB Menu who is apparently on 5.0.2 -- which is good news for everyone that updated!

Never, you can't just download games from Nintendo servers and expect them to work anymore, the games are tied to the console this time around.
uh the whole point of homebrew is to get the games free and beside, people already made a switch emulator and have games booting.

what were they tied to last time?

Nothing, I mean, when you were downloading a title from the eShop, it had an unique id which was tied to the software itself, so anyone who purchased the game on the eShop had the same software id, that made freeShop possible. With the switch, when you download a game from the eShop, it gets tied to your console with a specific id. I hope you understand.

1- Homebrew is not entirely dedicated on pirating games (A majority of homebrew devs are even against it).

2- Yeah, but that's experimental at the time of this post.

Speaking of witch, the games that run in the emulator are ROMs, and ROMs will eventually get the opportunity to be launched on the switch itself, if that's what you wanted. freeShop is a whole different thing all together as the ROMs were legally downloaded from Nintendo' servers, only to bypass the payment.

I meant putting roms on the switch, as I did that on 3ds, but its a pain to download and copy the rom and put it on the SD card as they are big, sooooo freeshop just downloads straight onto the console

Not possible the old way, deal with it.
Now, if you want to keep an online ROM repository and create a client to download from it, so you can watch the lazy pirates smile in happiness from the comfort of your dark and humid cell provided by the FBI, you're free to do that!

Well piracy is just another feature of the homebrew. The exploits were done primarily for customization and open access to the hardware you bought.
Besides, if backup loading ever comes to the switch, no matter the process, will be a saved money you get. Playstation and xbox has a hard backup loading which it doesnt matter for the users

If someone is not willing to invest time and effort for something free, (not to be rude), then we cant do anything for it. He might as well buy the cartridge and insert it in or download it from official eshop. No hassle.

true, I mean the 3ds had cool homebrew such as NTR and stuff for cheats and enhancements in game, custom Themes were a big thing on 3ds so I hope switch will have, as for backing up save data, we will just have to see about the Nintendo switch Online thing. When the switch came out people were like; OMG All virtual console on the go!! Nintendo knows that if they put up all their NES, Snes, N64, gamecube, DS and wii lineup on the eshop people will buy it, why havnt they?? Thats where homebrew comes in, to fix all the mistakes and give us the content we want

Well i will never say never to you. Things get improvements and get better in time. So i believe there will come a time the switch has the most supported homebrew with all the attention it receives. And all the things you envision will come accomplished.

But yeah, advancements means change. Gone are that days of one Flashcart to rule them all, or those letterbomb days for the wii where you drop the hack and everything is cracked. I wouldnt even be surprised these exploits will be gone and there will be no piracy or homebrew at all. It will be lovely with all those things and stuff tho. :D

Yeah, Some people wont even homebrew their switch bec the emulator development is going so fast, they are already getting switch games to boot up
