SciresM teases 5.0 homebrew

Scires posted a short video showing homebrew working on 5.0.1 with a side note that while it doesn't properly reboot into the Switch's OS yet, he hopes to have it working soon without too much trouble!

Currently he has replaced the Album button with custom code, in this case the Homebrew Menu, and shows off a Hello World demo launched from there.

Edit: A comment on his twitter post shows someone playing Tetris from the HB Menu who is apparently on 5.0.2 -- which is good news for everyone that updated!

I've been partying since yesterday when I saw this on Twitter.
I really want to use homebrew ASAP... yeah I will probably run RetroArch mostly.
Probably I will party yet again when they get the PPSSPP core working well also, and play P3P once again.
Yeah, I can do all of that on my non-Nintendo tablet already, don't judge me.
(but my 8bit-do controller stopped working suddenly and I am sour to play anything on my tablet without it anyway)

Sometimes I think there are two forums in one website: there is already a way to do it!

You should realize that with so much noise going on lately in the forums important threads and posts get lost like a needle in a haystack. That, unless they get promoted to news or something. Somebody should have written a news post for Hekate IMHO.
I kind of heard Hekate here and there, but I thought it was perhaps just another Linux build people were playing with and didn't dig into it. Anyway, thanks for the info, I will look into it now.

RetroArch mostly.
i have a 3.0.0 switch in the dust for months now.
i used some retroarch on it, while it is quite nice it is also very very unstable at times.
(switch will crash/you will get errors in the middle of the game, and sometimes saves wont work and all that jazz).

i will wait things out for retroarch.
i am more hyped for that neat CFW, hopefully we will be able to play the latest stuff with it C:

No word about @Jan4V ? That's sad. (Edit: Now that I see who made the OP it doesn't surprse me that it lacks proper background knowledge)

However, now I'm gonna sit and wait for RetroArch on 5.0.2.

That is a lot of good plans. Welcome aboard the hype train mate.

If by chance PPSSPP becomes a thing on the Switch, I will sell my PS Vita (on henkaku enso) without hesitation. I barely touch the thing nowadays...size does matter!

What is hekate anyways? Briefly heard about it, but I thought it was just a back up tool... The Switch shot off like a rocket in the scene. Working Linux... Various devs working on other custom code... Oof..

I should read more on it, but what I understood is that it is kind of a bootloader that you can use to boot directly into the Hombrew loader, no matter your Firmware version, using the Fusee Gelee exploit (i.e. shorting pins and sending an exploit by USB). Not sure how to use it though. I should read about it.

EDIT: actually it required FW 5.0.x, it booted into the OS and you could get into HBL through the album icon, but many homebrew software didn't work anyway (e.g. RetroArch cores back then) because they weren't compatible with the latest firmware somehow. I am editing this to avoid causing more confusion.
