Oh, if that gets rid of the clean boot, then I would prefer the clean boot instead of the sound. Could it maybe be implemented as an addon for the “boot with addon”? ;) My concern is that one of my favorite games “Super Mario Land 3: Yoshi’s Island”, which auto-saves within the game without any notification, will cause an error when I shutdown the console because I do not know when the game actually is saving.

Thereby, I have another question regarding saving: if you save a gb or gbc game ingame and then trigger the menu with “L+R”, could you also exit immediately or do you have to wait the 2-3 seconds before exiting or shutting down the console?

GBA game does not like modern game which has a save indicator on screen, but you can feel the timing trigger of auto save. like passed a stage, acquired new item. you can power off the console or reset it after these trigger. for the worse situation , the save states can help you.

The emulator needs press L+R to save the data, if you saved game in emulator and power off console, you can say bye bye with your data.
so, the standard operating procedure is "save game in emulator, press L + R, wait 2-3 second, exit".

You must wait 2-3 seconds (I've been waiting closer to 5 just to be extra careful) after L+R. The same if you Save State from the menu; any sort of save in the menu requires waiting 2-3 seconds. This is actually mentioned in the manual (well, the first part, anyways).

Tnx for clearing this up! I just don't want to go to all the trouble of progressing in a game and find out that the save is deleted ;)

from the Chinese user's feedback, wait a while after save is acceptable. no more save corruption. it is really a simple habit to adapt.

I agree with this. I've had the Omega for a couple days now and I'm already used to it. It's more convenient than the old EZ Flash IV method of saving, then restarting and waiting for the EZ Flash to write the save to the SD card and I had no issues with that once I got used to it.

Wouldn't it be as simple as adding another option? "Default Launch: x Choose x Clean Boot x Boot with Addons" and then have some button combo launch the choose menu? Personally, I've gotten used to the menu, so I'm fine with it as is.

I hope the Omega will handle DS Linking, things like Pokemon transfer or game detection that unlocks extras features, such as Castlevania Dawn of Sorrows giving an item if you have it's GBA Aria of Sorrows is in Slot-2.

Actually, should have mentioned this before, but you could set Save <Auto> to check for the following Game IDs and default to SRAM 64KBytes?

COLG
GMBC
GMBA
SMSA
PNES

This would fix a ton of problems with people using emulator compilations and having save issues. It'd actually be nice to have a text file that'd be read in on startup to include a list of overrides so one could set save type/save for various homebrew/rom hacks. Some things, for example multiboot games, never use a save file so having a NONE option would also be nice.

ok, we will treat all none commercial roms which are not enlisted in the offlinelist as 64KB SRAM

It's done in 1.02T4

How do I get the thumbnails to work? It just comes up with a broken image for me.

edit: Turns out Windows extracted it to IMG\IMG on the root, when it should just be \IMG\

Have any of the updates improved on the battery consumption issue?

I did a little test with a 2003 cobalt blue GBA SP. I recently bought a KMD GBA SP replacement battery (600mAh 3.7). I tested with Metroid Fusion, volume set to maximum, frontlight on. The testing procedure was simple:

1. Start save 1.
2. Wait.

The results:

1. On original Metroid Fusion cart - Time from full charge to drain 12:23. Time to red light 8:19.
2. On EZ-Omega Metroid Fusion (Firmware 3, kernel 1.02T4 with Clean Boot) - Time from full charge to drain 5:34. Time to red light 2:42.
3. On GB Bridge+F2A Mega Man Xtreme 2 - Time from full charge to drain 4:08. Time to red light 1:38.
4. On 2DS Metroid Fusion - Time from full charge to drain 8:05. Time to red light 6:59. I've had the 2DS for ~3.5 years and haven't replaced the battery, so I'd say that's pretty good considering.
5. On Gamebox Advance (software emulator clone) Metroid Fusion - Time from full charge to drain 1:49. Time to red light 1:45.
6. Again, on original Metroid Fusion cart - Time from full charge to drain 13:06. Time to red light 8:12.
7. On EZ-Flash IV Metroid Fusion - Time from full charge to drain 8:46. Time to red light 5:18.
8. Again, on EZ-Omega Metroid Fusion (Firmware 4, kernel 1.02 with Boot with Addons) - Time from full charge to drain 5:22. Time to red light 2:22.
9. EZ-Omega Metroid Fusion (Firmware "99", Kernel 1.03T) No Battery Save - Time from full charge to drain 6:36 (may be about 5 minutes short of this). Time to red light 3:18.
10. EZ-Omega Metroid Fusion (Firmware "99", Kernel 1.03T) With Battery Safe (RTC Off) - Time from full charge to drain 7:03. Time to red light 4:13.

So, I'd say with some confidence the following. On a new battery on a original GBA SP:

1. With an original cart you can get over 12 hours of battery.
2. With an EZ-Flash IV you can get over 8:30 hours of battery.
3. With an EZ-Omega you can get over 6:30 hours of battery. Not a bad bump in the newest firmware.
4. Using a Gamebox Advance has a great screen and really loud audio, but it's terrible for battery life. :)

Here is my Metroid Fusion save for reproducibility, but I imagine any save in a Save Room would be equivalent.

Edit - So cleaning the contacts, and I've had no more hang issues (so far).

I used an original Metroid Fusion cart and EZ-Omega Firmware 3, kernel 1.02T4 with Clean Boot. The results:

On original Metroid Fusion cart - Time from full charge to drain 12:23. Time to red light 8:19.
On EZ-Omega Metroid Fusion - Time from full charge to drain 5:34. Time to red light 2:42. I also experienced 3 hangs--the music became stuck on one note the first and second time and the last crackling as if glitching from bad patching. The first hang occurred about 30 minutes in. The second and third 40 minutes after red light and another about 50 minutes later.

I'm going to redo the test again with both, just to be sure that it's not an issue with the battery fully discharging and then actually fully recharging--I left it plugged in for over 8 hours, so that's not the issue. I'm also doing the test with a 2DS with Metroid Fusion on the same save and will be doing a test on my older, non-original battery. So, it's going to take a few days to get through it all.

I'll update this post as I get more results. Here is my Metroid Fusion save for reproducibility, but I imagine any save in a Save Room would be equivalent.
I did a similar test with the AGS aging cartridge. Let the test run, got ~13h (~ 11 to Red light) with the original cartridge and just shy of 6h (something like 5:48 or something) with the omega (4.5h to Red light).

So yes, the Omega is considerably more power hungry than a regular cartridge.

I didn't have any freezes, though.

I also plan to do tests with my EZ-Flash IV. Tempted to use my F2A just for kicks, but it's such a time consuming thing. Did you have any issues with hanging?
No hangs here, I recorded everything with a Webcam and the aging test ran all the way through until it turned off, entirely.

I also did the test with the reform and that one went over 6h. Thought about running it on my F2A as well but figured that was not worth the effort. Might let it run overnight, though.
