Hacking Safe to do system update? I'm software modded running 11.3.0-36u

Ok, well I modded probably more than a year ago by following a step by step online guide, I'm not a 3ds expert at all, and frankly never intended to do any system updates after I modded. However I'm playing fire emblem fates, it seems in order to upgrade weapons in the game well I need to visit other players online "castles" to get metal ore. Frankly it pisses me off that I need to go online to do anything with this game. Then the game says I must update my system version before I can go online. I have FBI and Luma3ds v6.6 installed.

Is it safe to update the system to enable online play of this game?

i also modded on 11.3 and i updated to 11.6 perfectly fine except i had to update some of the payloads in order for the CFW to work and tbh i forgot what i did to make it work it was so long ago

either way i updated to 11.6 with no issues at all if you do update try it at your own risk

What are you using for homebrew? Standard *hax or cfw?
Being able to install CIAs means cfw. If you're still not sure, try holding Select while your 3DS boots & see what happens.
Hopefully, a luma 7.1 or higher config screen will show, but if it doesn't then take a picture of the root of your SD card and upload it here.

Update luma first.

And if youre not on b9s, update a9lh to b9s.

Then update via system.

I went from 11.1 to 11.6 this way.

thanks guys, I found a good a9lh to b9s step by step, rolled up my sleeves, an hour or so later it's done and I'm able to get the ore I need to upgrade my weapons in Fire Emblem! What a stupid gameplay mechanic! Whatevs, nice to be on the current system update and still have things working, thanks for the info.
