Stay away from any refurbished consoles. Sony puts the newest firmware on the device at the time of refurbishment.
Any new, sealed phat will be under 4.05 and there are plenty of those available. No need to take any risks.
My 3.55 Uncharted 4 500GB Slim Bundle from Amazon was from the seller DEAL SOURCE NETWORK. I'm a prime member so there was no shipping charges and there was no sales tax so I paid a total of $308.85. It was the lowest price offed for a new unit at the time of purchase.

So I found a PS4 Pro CUH 7015B console at GameStop. They have a horrible return policy for "new" (not preowned) consoles... but everything online seems to point towards this having pre 4.05 firmware. Youtube unboxing videos showing the 7015B almost always show the users screen imediately pushing a 4.05 firmware upgrade too. However there is like one single comment (it looks like he posted in a two forums with the same post too) where it says he "had the same model and box art" and the console was on 4.70. Seems odd to me that a console that came out in 2016 would have a firmware version that wasn't released until 2017. Were they ever using old boxes with newer consoles in them?? Any advice on how to crack the seal without voiding the return policy? (keep in mind my heat gun is in storage...)

Open the seal by heating it up with a hair dryer and slowly lifting it with a thin tweezer, make sure to take pictures of how the box was packaged and format the console after checking to the first power up will be the setup screen for the next person.

I found a PS4 Slim 1TB Uncharted 4 + 2 joypads bundle. I asked the seller to send me photos of the Serial and all of that and the results are in the attachment.
Now, somebody posted a flowchart a couple of pages pack and it says that if the Serial number is below S01-2687xxxx that should be a 4.05 or less console.
Can anyone offer any additional confirmation?
I also uploaded the flowchart - is it reliable?
tl;dr - is the console in the picture <4.05?

When it arrived the seal was already broken so I was doubtful, then again, it meant I could open it up without breaking the seal myself...
Turned out it came with 3.55, joy!

I was afraid the console would be sold, so I ordered it on Saturday and when I told the seller that I was still checking if it's the right model - he immediately knew what I was looking for and claimed that yes, this model comes with <4.05. Hopefully, I'll be able to check the validity of his claims tomorrow and then I'll report in.
