i freakling love this game. the plot rivals the best JRPGs and is honestly anime quality at time. The chapter 1 ending cut scene was DOPE AFFFFF.
battle system is incredible.
world is beautiful.

Honestly what xenoblade lacks is polish and interaction with envrionments which is sadly a flaw in ALL jrpgs. I'd like for future titles to have less but do more nicer like BOTW but.. then again its not that kind of game.

graphics are average but design is amazing.

technically compared to BOTW/Oddysey... its very very very far away.

Jrpg's are generally slow within the first 2-3 chapters you gotta let story unfold more to get into the meat of all things. In this game you still had tutorials in your face up to ch3 but they are vital to when the game does get faster.
Its not Persona 5 paced, but once you understand how different blades work and obtaining rare blades then you will be singing a different tune of interest. BOTW is more character independent so the story will always keep moving forward b/c your not heavily focused on other characters not sure if that was good comparison towards this game since character development slows down the story to reveal a character's background/past. If you skipped tutorials then that's probably your 1st big mistake not knowing how the combat works contributes slow gameplay

I think the game looks about the same as breath of the wild, but is just me. The game is no way perfect and obviously was intended for a new demographic of players that wasn't directly based on the first one. So most people who like the first game for the story, characters and gameplay would not like this one. I played both and I don't have a problem with either of them enough not to dislike it. But there is huge glaring problems with this one that i'm hoping they do fix in updates cause it was just a bit uneasy to come across.

First the graphics are not so great, but it's the environment that makes what these places look like come to life, huge size areas, look like some zoo with each species of animals and their own habitat or ecosystem, first game had two titans, bionis and mechonis, this game has more... guess the quality vs quantity got a bit balance in this situation. The cel shade thing, guess for the anime aesthetic but personally I think only some games pull it off properly, Wind waker was one but breath of the wild and this game, no thanks. I think they could have improved the textures more, of course it would mean more data to the game and maybe more problems with performance. Honestly I think this should have been the game on wii u that doesn't have much of a issue with data storage capacity with those expensive carts + needing a SD card to download extra polishing data.

The music isn't bad, some places have catchy music and feels just right, the mood at day is lively and upbeat and night is calm and mellow, it makes the dynamic transitions nice. I mean It's Yastunori Mitsuda, the guy who helped make many games music popular. (Perhaps a bit biased) :P

I can be the first to point out all the problems and wrong stuff in the game, but it's been said so many times is just repeating stuff at this point. I don't see anyone talking about some of the positives as if there is none which isn't true. Yes there is more bad than good but I see it is being worked on by devs and trying to improve. Maybe it won't change the base game overall but the additions may perhaps make it less problematic.

"Oh look he can wield the Monado and without him we're fluff expendables!" Reminds me of Krillin always looking for Goku for help.
You do realize that Monado in XC1, did you finish that game? Shulk didn't pick the Monado for fun, he was meant to be, the end will explain everything.

I think his point was more that shulk was so much more powerful than the rest of the party lorewise. Where as Rex & pyra are basically even in power with the party (until the end).

Mythra was overpowered, she can even do blade combo alone, but of course she should be the overpowered blade in the game otherwise the Aegis name will be a joke, the same goes with Monado, that's why the game is called Xenoblade, because the story is about an overpowered blade outside from this world.

I absolutely loved the first game (put +250 hs on it).

I played 5 hours of this one during this weekend and I found it to be very frustrating. There are a lot quality of life downgrades... the map system is the worst I've seen, the tutorials are annoying and don't explain anything, you can't even re-watch them. The main problem for me is the map, it's so uncomfortable to use that discourages exploration (the main selling point of this franchise). Why change it? It worked perfectly on the first game.

Also, I'm starting to feel that the game is bloated with systems upon systems upon systems. The original game wan't simple either, but it did a good enough job in introducing the battle system intricacies, and also they made sense to the overall plot (e.g. the future predictions).

That's what's been so frustrating so far... I found every single change from the first game to be unnecessary and detrimental to the overall experience. I'm playing and thinking all the time "The first game did this 10 times better".
I will keep playing in hope to get used to all these changes.

the first 5 hours were so boring, so the first game, i agree the map system is the worst in games history, but u will get used to it.
keep playing, i found the battle system is so amazing and fun later on maybe after chapter 3, the story is so deep and the music is equal to XC1, you wont be disappointed.

Shulk was more like a key to winning. You couldn't do much without him, but rex you can do enough without him. Unless you have shulk using monando arts to do stuff like enchant other players with buffs (One which is required to just hit mechonis type enemies) While others are just to avoid attacks with monando arts, you basically just have more use for him.

Rex you don't need as much, but he is still considered a key since he has the aegis which unless you somehow get kos-mos or even a generic blade (since mythra and kos-mos are the only two with light element for blade combos) it is not as required for battles. But rex is just more satisfying to use since he does have other blades like Nia who can heal and even do pyra/nia blade attacks, but then look at poppi? Fully customizable blade? If you actually spend enough time trying to make her good, she probably is too good that even the Ageis takes a backseat to her. (Tora is a genius Nopon)

Well least is not the master sword from breath of the wild, all mighty powerful sword that needs to recharge for 10 minutes after using it too much. Like having a battery for a weapon you need to shake... oh wait, does no more heroes ring a bell? :creep:

"he was meant to be" is just them being lazy with the story. Yes I know the ending explains everything, but can they do better with the story instead of making all the characters fluffs except for the major two? Overall it disappointed ME. Not you, me. The other one character that randomly shows up in your quests I don't feel surprised, betrays you and the character that thought was dead didn't wasn't surprising as well since it's obvious they've already established a history with the protagonist.

These games are gigantic.Gotta give it a try and then see how slow or not it is. There´s always the chance that they drop the ball even in AAA games. Hope it´s not the case. I have played 1 and X on the Wii U.

Why didn't you go with the D-pad shell for the left joycon?

I still don't get the battle system. I can not block? I can run around and hide behind something but monsters still attack and hit me?! But when I run I do not attack?
My strategic planning now: lets face that monster! Oh I probably gonna win... Yes I won. I really don't need to move my controllers? And those arts... do they really make a difference?
