I don't get how this is 'new' news?!
Nintendo have ALWAYS gone after sites hosting roms of their properties, going right back to the late 90's... some get away with it longer than others, some are harder to track down, some stay under the radar by not becoming too 'public'... and on the other end of the spectrum there are those that have always refused to host Nintendo roms, purely because they know it makes them a target.
For years the website I mentioned in the previous page hosted complete romsets of Nintendo systems but not anymore. It's as though they eased up for a while and are now cracking down on these websites.

However freeshop is not a suitable replacement as it does not let you keep a copy for other uses later, whether for romhacking or for when the servers eventually shut down. Freeshop only lets you install a copy of the original, unmodified game.

Which you then dump to ROM or CIA and go from there.

I know exactly what site that is... it hosted some complete sets (most of which weren't the latest verified sets, or even 'complete' compared to the sets I have)... in terms of any systems after N64 - they had a pretty poor selection, and most of that was privately hosted and required an active, and verified, forum account.
It's always been one of the most popular sites, which has made it a pretty big target... but it's not even close to my top 5 when I'm looking for roms.

Just a thought. Perhaps Nintendo is going to announce the Switch virtual console at e3 and this is their method of protecting it from piracy.

As for ROMs now being more difficult to find I don't think it'll stay that way for long. Too many people have complete romsets on their hard drives. They will be re-uploaded onto the internet in time. Remember the scarcity principle: once something becomes rare or unavailable we want it more. If it weren't for Nintendo's latest move I wouldn't give a shit about keeping complete romsets and isosets (if this word exists) on my hard drive. But now I plan on downloading them as soon as I find them.

In that case you know better better rom sites than I do. There's hope in that.

Fucking thirsty pirates on here today.

You sir, get a like.

People moaning about preservation need to learn that easy access to pirated roms != preservation. The roms not going to vanish from the face of the Earth because a few rom sites got hit with a DMCA boo-hoo Nintendo suck etc.

If this is of any help, you can still access certain ROM download links with https://archive.org/ from the Paradise site.
I just got into the Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World page and the download link appears.
However, I get stuck at the captcha screen since the captcha doesn't appear, but perhaps this might help out to someone who knows how to bypass that crap to get the ROMs from the cache.

Hope this helps for someone who can still get the ROMs safe and sound from their archive before the cache view deletes it as well.

No... NO... NOOOOOOOOO! I just got my flashcarts working! This is absolutely devastating. Emulation is going to be very hard now unless you own a copy of every game you want to play. And I am a very big emulation-er. I don't even know what to do now. What are we going to do?!?!
