There's a hdmi-converter for wii that gives as high res as it can handle, will say it's 1080p but that's upscaled so it's not really that nice. if you buy it remember this converter needs cooling! i'd really recommend drilling small holes in the cover, and possebly ad a fan (i burned my first converter).

It did? (sorry, not funny really!) - I've bought 2 for both my mums and kid bro's Wiis and they've both been fine, but results will vary from the different ones I'm sure (take note Hielkenator!)
I suppose I have to agree with Hielkenator on this one though - component is the way to go with the Wii, and official ones are preferred too, but if you can't find them [for the right price] then go for 3rd party: assuming your TV supports them I'd pick a 3rd party component cable over a wii2hdmi, so in my opinion:

Component (official) > Component (3rd party) > hdmi >> S-video >>>>>> Composite. (RGB would be in between hdmi and svideo but it doesn't support gamecube NTSC games)

I imported official component Wii cables from Japan :) What is a good component to HDMI convertor?
Your TV doesn't have ypbpr inputs? If it does, just plug it straight in - best output.
If it doesn't, are you after a standalone special hdmi converter, or the ones that plug directly into the Wii? Just looked at the ones I bought from Amazon (about 3 years ago at least!) and can't find the same ones  - unless someone on here can give you a recommendation I'd just check out the reviews before buying. Standalone converters - no ideas myself, though I suspect you get what you pay for...
The wii2hdmi cables we've been talking about don't use the component cable....

YES a PROPERLY softmodded Wii can play games of ALL region in any video format.
I suggest using modmii by XFlak to get the files asn guidance to softmod your Wii.
For gamecube games use Nintendont instead of DiosMios.
I use USB loader GX as it's hassle free, Fully loaded, and looks awesome.
A big plus is that all avaiable options and settings canbe done, from it's "nintendo-ish" gui.

Get a Component cable for your Wii!
Make sure your TV support component inputs.
This will give your the best possible image for your wii and will enable you to display games from ALL regions in 480I or 480p.
also resolutions of 240p are supported if your tv can handle them ( megaman x collection and various hamebrew emulators ).

Contrary to what some trolls told you in this thread, Component , gives you a FAR better image that S-video or RGB on an lcd tv.
Also, there are many, many manufactures of these cables but get the OFFICIAL nintendo ones if you can!
Do not purchase a Wii 2 HDMI
or similar! You will end up with horrible artifacting due tot he cheap upscalers used in these Component to HDMI converters.
Just let your TV handle any upscaling.

Correct, get official component cables if your tv supports it.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I have a PAL Wii. Just a question, if I want to run NTSC Gamecube games via disc not ripped to a file, can I still use Nintendont? Or should I be using something else? I have a few original GC games in NTSC. Would prefer to run from disc if possible so I can save time from ripping it :)

Thanks,
K.

Hi Guys I'm bumping this thread, since I posted my problem in the Nintendont forum.

I just set up a fresh Wii today (PAL console) using Component on a HDTV and but the problem is, I cannot get NTSC games to boot like Starfox and Mario Kart, as it always says "Video Mode Not Supported"

I have tried forcing Progressive Scan/Video to NTSC/NTSC 480P and it still shows that message. Any Ideas?

Did you make sure to check wii settings for video setup? Why you trying to play NTSC format with a pal console?

The Wii settings are set to HDTV 480P. I use NTSC format, since they are coded for 60Hz refresh rate, which is far superior to PAL 50Hz (Black Borders). It was a common thing to do back in the day to buy Imports from the US and Japan because consoles were never optimized like they are today. I have over 30 NTSC titles that play perfectly fine with my Japanese GC, yet I'm wanting to use the Wii in order to get a better picture since Gamecube Component cords are $200 + on Ebay.

I thought nintendont can change the FPS without needing to load NTSC games.

@SylverReZ, atleast wiimmfii went fine although people only use it for Mario kart Wii

At least if they ban you for cheating, get another Wii. They're cheap as chips.

    not really

It got shutdown because somebody "accidentally" leaked the database for the amount of people using the beta.

RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    Brb
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, Oh yeah, that was a thing too. Dolphin does support Wiimmfi.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
yeah you just need to put your NAND backup with wiimmfi on it
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
ngl i feel like if a bunch of my friends have wiis and know how to get wiimmfi and back up their NAND, then we could do a PMEX Remix tournament
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
maybe even add UMVC3/DBFZ and make it a biathlon/triathlon
