did you connect it before powering on your 3ds?
and i mean connect it tto the usb card reader (while this one isn't connected to pc)
meaning : connect the 3ds to the card reader(xhile off) --> power on 3ds (blue screen) --> connect the card reader to pc
I was connecting the sd when the adapter was already connected to the pc... NOW IT WORKS!!! THANK YOU!!!

(Still the adapter is incompatible, I'll buy a compatible one!!!)

Attempted a hardmod on my non-XL USA N3DS and having some issues. I thought all my joints were connected properly, but when I powered on, my N3DS would stay black (no sign of the monitor coming on) with the blue light on for a couple of seconds before the whole thing shut off. If I connected my SD and plugged the SD into my USB adapter (the one I used for my older hardmodded console) then the blue light comes on for about a second and shuts off immediately after, suggesting connecting actually changed something.

Here is a series of pics I took of my soldering points. I desoldered the black wire (GND) to show what was under it (pic 182): I'm unsure if the point was even a good spot (based it off the blueprints I found) and also wondering if I fried it, and whether or not I can salvage it/it didn't cause permanent damage and if I can find a different point to solder.

In pics 175 and 176, there are two small ribbon cables which I also couldn't get to shut entirely: I don't feel like I broke it, nor do I remember the cable lock being that loose as I was disassembling the 3DS, either.

EDIT: If it helps any, I have a multimeter, but have absolutely no clue how to use it (particularly, where I should be testing and at which voltage level)

EDIT2: Actually, I realized my C-stick wasn't in. I re-soldered the black wire to the supposed "ground" (assuming the point I'm using really is a ground...) and tried to be very careful connecting everything back. Now, the blue light comes on again. Just before it turns off, the bottom screen only flashes for about a frame or two, then shuts off along with the blue light.

EDIT3: Not really sure what I did, but I managed to get the blue screen to appear for one frame on the bottom screen only for about a frame with the sd card connected. Without it, the screen is just black, with a longer time before the blue light shuts off... Does that mean my solder job worked and I have a bad ribbon connection somewhere?

Ok the sdcard adapter with RTS5301 chipset just arrived... Tried... and it doesn't work. It asks me to "Insert a disk in G:"... Any help?

EDIT:

The error code seems to be changed... the second line said 00000000 with the old uncompatible adapter and DFDFFFFF with the new one. Also, the bleu screen appears quicker than with the old adapter!

The error code doesnt really matter, it changes based on SD adapters and SD to USB adapters

If your SD adapter is confirmed working, then your wiring is wrong

Well then the adapter is faulty

Are your wires really long?

What happens when you plug everything in? Does it ask to format?
My wires are pretty short.. 5 cm inside the 3ds and 5cm from the 3ds to the SD...

When I plug in the adapter, it just shows empty units (when I open them it says to insert a disk)

well tbh its possible people have received a different revision of the card reader, one person i did a nand mod for bought the exact same model as i use and said they were still unable to get the nand to read, so i dont think these things are an exact science

some tips for the n3DS though, is sometimes it wont pop up with the format prompt, try a few things like removing in re-inserting the SD, same for the SD reader itself and finally try rebooting a few times, sometimes it can take a couple of goes for it to work properly

i have noticed the samsung nand's are more of a pita to get connected, even with a card reader i know works it can take a few goes for it to pop up

Yeah im not sure what to tell you. If the adapter is confirmed to be working, then the only other thing is your wiring. Is your GND properly secured? Because if the GND isnt attached properly then it doesnt work

Is there anyway to verify the chipset the reader is using without opening it up? Device manager says Realtek but doesn't say what the model number is

Could someone send me the correct pinout for the sdcard?
You mean this?

Show us some up close pics of your solder points
If only I could.. Unfortunately the glue went on the homebutton ribbon cable, which is now glued to its slot.. I basically can't remove the board... But the multimeter finds about 3.2V on DAT0 and CMD, so they're fine. GND also works (I used it to check the other wires). The only thing is CLK, which seems to have an extremely low voltage. For that reason I redid its soldering 3 times and I always got the same value so...

if the blue screen pops on as fast as you power your 3ds , then it's your sd card reader , you need to get a working one ...
an idea ,: try using the old reader to get the normal status , then change it with that realtek adapter and see if it works or not

Mmm Ok I try this now

EDIT: Nothing... But yeah, with the new adapter the bluescreen popped out once I pressed the power button, with the old one there's a delay

EDIT: Windows says that's a realtek chip, but doesn't tell me the model. I tried to open the adapter to check the exact but it's almost impossible to open it without breaking it...
