I've been trying so many different methods to get homepass working for me (as of recent it has stopped working for me completly, since I updated to 9.5)

What I used before to get it working was Macycler and when I went back it was updated to 2.0 and what I used last was 1.3. The New update gave me hope in getting homepass to work again. With little instructions on how to use this new program, no readme to look at I'm left to figure this out on my own so I have just two questions.

1. When it asks to add a network adapter do I add the "wifi" network the adapter itself is set to or the virtual network that "NZ@McD1" is set to?

2. What are Prime MACs? Do I want to check off this box? The only reason I have it unchecked is that it only has 16 MACs available and I would like to connect to more than that.

I'm also lost in this step _@ I honesty been trying to find out what I'm doing wrong and I followed many methods and so far the only method that works is the glaciergaglaciergaming.co.uk one (http://www.glaciergaming.co.uk/articles/640/homepass-for-3ds-version-94-on-windows) however I noticed that in past three days it only work around 1-4 am (USA mountain time) plus to add it only get homepass from people in Europe between 6 or 8 besides that nothing else. I knew shouldn't updates to 9.5 :hateit:

I'm looking for more mac adresses from Europe, i know the spreadsheat has alot in the list, but most or for the US and only a few for Europe.

Is there another list besides the google doc one given here? preffered, Europe (Belgium/Netherlands/UK/Germany/France/Spain/Italy/the Scandinavian countries/etc... also more from Asia would be nice :)

Thanks

I just want to confirm I went through all 160 MAC addresses (waited 5 mins a piece) and didnt get any streetpasses from any. In case anyone was wondering if the 3DS was receiving any network data at all it was, I got a spotpass notice about a Donkey Kong sale in the eShop this afternoon. This couldnt have been received on any other network because I deleted every connection in the 3DS system settings except the one for homepass.

I removed any possible firewall from this PC, I am positive I have set it up as its suppose to be in order to start homepass. Does anyone have any suggestions for me at this point?

Again I used Macycler on the network NZ@McD1 and its encrypted to WPA2-PSK (I cant change it if I wanted to) and my 3DS is on 9.5 Firmware

Believe me I have tried the glacier method and ran it overnight with no results. Its completely possible for me to receive streetpass when I've visited my friends in person but its like I'm banned from using homepass. I dont know how else to explain my situation.

It is pretty easy to determine what the problem is, with the latest FWs you cannot use any form of encryption. If you cannot disable it, you are SOL.

Perhaps this is the problem I've been having all along, the whole time I've used Homepass its been on an encrypted network with no issues so far. The reason I cant change the security is because its dependent on the security of the original network is on (my home network which I refuse to change, I live in a tough neighborhood. Dont ask.)

Is there any virtual networking program that works friendly with MACycler? What I used for a virtual network before was REALTEK USB Wireless LAN Utility, its what came with my adapter when I purchased it and what I've been using this whole time.

i changed dongles and everything works now

I tried that, but I keep encountering the same issue as before. I get the program and everything working just fine except there are no received packets and the left corner of my 3DS never says "Internet". I guess that 9.5 method just shuts some people out of Homepass completely.

May i suggest to take away the MAC cicler from nzone.exe as well as its MAC spoofing system? I mean to spoof the MAC on a dongle ain't that complicated and from what I understand the problem lies in the security part of the normal hosting network sistem of windows 7/8 (WEP,WPA, etc.) which is fixed to a forced WPA2-PSK so... why can't it simply create such a hosted network and leave the mac spoofing part the users through a simplified .bat file?

Hi all! Just signed up to gbatemp to contribute to this thread. I just got my first 3DS on New 3DS release day so all this is new to me, but here are my findings.

  • All of my tinkering has been on 9.5.0-22U. I only found out about streetpass/homepass/etc after updating.
  • I'm doing Windows methods.
I started out trying MACycle.
  • MACycle v2.00 is cool, and has a nice UI, but relies on hostednetwork.
    • hostednetwork-based solutions seem to have problems because WPA2-PSK security is required.
  • I've read the MACycle thread and I was unable to get MACycle working.
Afterwards, I tried the nzone.exe solution (which is far simpler) and got it to work.
  • I ran nzone.exe on a Surface Pro 1 with only the wifi-card active.
    • The Marvell Avastar 150N built into the Surface Pro 1 is capable of mac spoofing without silly octet mangling.
  • nzone.exe operates by automatically configuring the hostednetwork, and creating a windows scheduled task for itself.
    • The scheduled task will execute the command line you gave it (in my case nzone.exe start BASE16) every minute.
      • when the glaciergaming post talks about "kick starting" it by running nzone.exe start BASE256, it's because that's exactly what the scheduled task does every time it runs.
  • nzone.exe uses hostednetwork as well, but it ConsoleNintendo3DS for the SSID (which seems to be italian).
  • Per this list, ConsoleNintendo3DS is expected to have a different SecurityMode than attwifi
    • Perhaps SecurityMode 7 is WPA2-PSK.
    • Is it thus validto assume that all 3DS units know of a password for ConsoleNintendo3DS hotspots?
      • How else could this be working?
  • Over time, running nzone.exe eventually put my Wi-Fi adapter into some invalid state in which nzone.exe could no longer start & stop it.
    • Thus, after a couple StreetPass hits, I quickly stopped getting any (tested overnight).
  • Unfortunately, while it was working, I StreetPassed the same three people at basically every MAC.
  • I can't find the origin of nzone.exe aside from the download url, and the site at that DNS name doesn't seem to host a page.
    • Who wrote this thing?
Eventually, I realized that nzone.exe had configured for me a valid hosted network that the 3DS could use, and that I could maybe then administrate it with MACycle to achieve random cycling, custom MAC lists, and most importantly--durability.

  • Using MACycle with the hostednetwork configured by nzone.exe, I was able to get some StreetPasses.
  • Most of the MAC addresses I visit on the "Basic" set of 160 in MACycle result in no hits.
    • I'm guessing this is because not many people are hitting those MAC addresses using ConsoleNintendo3DS
      • Instead, they're probably using attwifi or NZ@McD1.
So all in all, limited success. I'd like to try experimenting with other networks, however I don't know the passwords for any of these other SecurityMode 7 hotspots so I can't spoof them--and even then, without knowing the real MAC addresses of those real hotspots it's unlikely that other people will be using those SSIDs with spoof MACs. Unfortunately, nzone.exe doesn't appear to be written in .NET so I can't disassemble it to see how it's creating the hostednetwork (and more importantly what password it's passing to netsh).

However, knowing that it's possible to use WPA2-PSK networks (as long as the 3DS expects that SSID to be WPA2-PSK) seems like a good discovery. It seems like the unsecured nature of attwifi and NZ@McD1 is a sore point for some people, so if we could figure out the password for ConsoleNintendo3DS it might be worth adding that SSID to this recommendation so that people wanting network security (and windows users) have another option.

Hope this helps someone!

I am attempting to try setting things up the way that is mentioned in the "TRY THIS FIRST" part. I have tried this before and it didn't work, but I see a few new setup options now so I want to check.

9yZfwVQ.png

This is the result of using the maccheck.cmd linked in that above section. The thing that annoys me about all of this, is the fact I can change the adapter's MAC addresses providing I follow the windows octet restrictions.

My current setup is bridging this adapter to my LAN connection and using the Realtek USB Wireless LAN Utility to turn my adapter into a soft-ap. To change the MACs I am using MACpass 2.0 from another thread back when mac cyclers were the thing to use. The realtek utility likes to crash a fair amount, and I need to give about a minute between each MAC change for the AP to active and the 3ds to connect.

I noticed the VMware Player option does not mention using maccheck.cmd to see if your adapter can use it. So is it possible to use my adapter with the vmware setup and have it work at all?

My reason for doing this... is the fact my current list of mac addresses are seemingly dead with only half actually giving me streetpasses now.

Another thing I'm curious about, where does the nzone script/program pull its mac addresses from? Would it be possible to view them separately? If I am unable to use the prebuilt setups, I would be willing to pull out any/all of the mac's I can use from that list.

So is there a program similar to virtual router where I can make a virtual network where I can change the security encryption on it (to WEP)

As I said before I live in a tough neighborhood where my info is likely to be compromised if my home network was set to WEP.

You can indeed! After you execute nzone.exe, there will be a file named nzone.macs in the same directory as nzone.exe. It will contain either 16 or 256 MAC addresses (depending on whether you chose BASE16 or BASE256), where the 16 are what I believe are the "Prime" MACs (4e:53:50:4f:4f:40 through 4e:53:50:4f:4f:40) while the 256 range is everything from 4e:53:50:4f:4f:00 to 4e:53:50:4f:4f:ff.

Supposedly, these are the lists it uses.

It seems that my friend can't get hits through my Homepass which i have setup using a DD-WRT router :o where as I still can with my old 3DS XL ~ so need input from you guys who have experienced this or perhaps someone can enlighten if they have tested it out ~ ! Thanks in advance! :D

Trying the nzone.exe method now (while reading the German Nintendo magazine N-Zone, hah) and it seems to work. :D Now I'm hoping for some MH4U hits.
