This is no YIDS. They actually gave a shit about the whole experience this time. The music is great and not phoned in/boring like the DS game, the controls are really tight (and unlike DKCR3D, you can use the D-pad and circle pad and retain all the same button controls), and overall the game feels like a remake+1 in the same vein as the original NSMB was (same story, familiar feeling tone, but smoother animations). This is a worthy Yoshi's Island game and Nintendo deserves every penny for it. Playing on Gateway but it's a day one buy for me now that I know it's not a repeat of YIDS. One of the few 3DS games that actually makes me feel anxious to play it (I'm a jaded 1984 kid with finicky taste in modern games).
edit: One more thing.....use headphones. The music seems designed around the assumption that the speakers have bass and it sounds really underwhelming through the 3DS's built-ins. The bass is completely lost and the songs feel unfinished without it. The sound design is very good but I can't stress enough how much it requires you use headphones or at least external speakers, unlike some other 3DS games like ALBW which sound good enough through the built-ins.
