You dont need emuNAND at all to play Zelda. Im surprised how confused people here are.

My bad .. I didn't mentioned I was talking about retail ... So most of you guys don't buy games anymore? That's kind of sad :S I downloaded Bravely Default since it's only out in EU but I'll buy it when it comes out in US.

ok i just got my gateway today.. firmware 4.4 3ds xl. Installed the exploit and updated the emunand to 7.0.. Now when I go gateway or classic mode, and try to go into settings, it seems like it freezes.. Is there any fix to that?

My zelda albw retail works in classic mode. Of course though my save game didn't work though, but that is to be expected.

another question. I decided to throw some ds back ups onto the micro sd and played a bit on the blue cartridge.. seemed fine. However save games didnt save after rebooting.

Also upon going back to settings/ profiles /ds profile, it isnt going into gateway mode. What did I miss?

emuNAND is not working with updated apps, this includes: eShop, System Settings, Mii Plaza update, Mii Universe, etc.

Booting anything on DS mode erases GW's hack, therefore must be reapplied via GW blue cart. I don't know why it's not saving for you, try to boot the games without using emuNAND.

lol in my opinion and I'm sure some will agree, there's no real point in owning a gateway if you intend to purchase games. Unless of course you want to support a developer or that you want to pirate only "sometimes" lol.. That's why I don't really get why a lot of people are worried about the eshop working etc.. But hey, that's just me being honest.

For me, the region free conviced me to buy a Gateway ... I was also really happy when they announced they were working on multirom support since I've got a lot of physical games and it's annoying to have to carry them and physically switch games ;)

Same as Rob Blou. I always played the US releases of Professor Layton and I wouldn't want to suddenly play the UK release (different voice acting).
And hopefully there will be multirom support soon, because that's something I am looking forward to as well.

Surely you can still update your EmuNAND by using a 6.3 game; perhaps one of the latest Pokemon games.
Pokémon would update to 6.1, if I'm not mistaken...

...I believe someone tried that and said it worked. But it's not recommended. The Gateway team explicitly mentions to only update through system settings. (For example, updating through the eShop updates the sysNAND.)

hi all,

I did the update/backup/format tricks in my gateway in version 2.0b1 a few days ago and my firmware is 4.5 so I find myself with GW3D4.5 in Gateway Mode - with EmuNAND (i don't had update to GW3D6.3:sad::cry:)
Reading the 27 pages of this row I understand that 6.3 is no longer available only possible update to 7.0
Some say that emunand from 4.xx to 7.xx works fine, others that emunand from 6.3 to 7.xx gives them issues
I can do (4.5 >> 7.0) or is it better to wait for new update of Gateway team?

Thx for your help

It depends on your reasons for updating.

7.0 can load retail cartridges fine.
7.0 even works fairly well with Gateway at the moment, it's the region spoof that is not working.
Apps that were updated however will not work. Gateway needs to update their launcher to make emuNAND work properly with the official apps of Nintendo.

Thank you. Now I understand how this thing works. It really isn't that bad, I will just have to pick up another microsd card or 2, leave one dedicated for ds backups.. and just make sure to reinstall gw when i go back to gw mode. Saves do work, i guess it just didn't work the first time.

Now I just got to figure out how to back up 3ds rom saves when switching roms on the micro sd card... I could probably buy a few extra micro sd cards, but than that could be a waste when multi rom support comes out.

there's no tool. you solder the wires and everything by yourself.
the thread is this: http://gbatemp.net/threads/nand-flash-dump-3ds-xl.350668/
I don't know if someone made a detailed guide. you have to look for it.

A user made a 2-parts tutorial video to open the 3DS XL, solder wires and do the backup/restore.
I find the 3DS opening part well done, but soldering is not very detailed (it doesn't explain how to solder them, from where to where (doesn't provide schematics), which tools to use to make an opening in the console/how, etc.)

Watch the video if you need help to open the console, then look at the 3DS Noob stickied thread, it has link to the thread with lot of pictures and info.

I managed to get Zelda retail for less than $20, which I can afford RIGHT NOW, unlike a Gateway, which I maybe could possibly get sometime in the future, but if I ever hope to do that, I need to stay on 4.5. To play Zelda and keep 4.5 I need emuNAND in classic mode, which fortunately you don't need an actual Gateway to set up.

So there is a real point to using Gateway software even if buying retail games, to keep options open for the future. Letting the 3DS update to play Zelda slams a lot of doors, and I like having the doors open.
