Okay so I tried looking through guides for help on installing this properly, but it's caused me nothing but trouble. The GC games don't load on CFG USB Loader, they hang on the DIOS MIOS screen. And trying to use the games on USB Loader GX give me this message:

I know I installed the right version of DIOS MIOS (the one made for USB), and updated all the USB Loaders that were compatible with it, but it's not working. And now on top of this, loading my actual GC discs relies on DM and hangs on either a black screen, or for example with Donkey Konga, goes in the game, hangs after picking a song.

What is the best way to fix all of this?

USB drive must be formatted as FAT32 with 32kb cluster size to use Dios Mios.

games go in USB/games/whateverName/game.iso

The iso must be named game.iso

Not sure why your retail game is not working, but you can restore your Mios and overwrite Dios Mios if you want.

I already know my drive is FAT32, but I'm not sure how to check the cluster size, or how to change it. The games are already installed in the folder and named as game.iso.

Here is a method to check I snagged from another forum

  1. Method to see if your USB is 32K Alligned (has 32kb cluster size)
(Thanks to Candylove for this method)

    1. Plug your USB into your computer
    2. Create a text file on that USB (in any folder, whatever is easy for you). You can do this by right clicking, selecting "New", then "Text Document".
    3. Type something short in that file like "Hello", and save it with whatever name.
    4. Right click on that file and select "Properties".
    5. A box will pop up. Look at what it says for "Size" and "Size on disk".
    6. The Size will be dependent on what you typed in that text file. If it was "Hello" it should be 5 bytes (1 byte per character) but that doesn't matter. What's important is the Size on Disk. If it says 32.00 KB (32.786 bytes), then your USB is properly aligned. If it says anything else, then your drive does not have 32kb cluster size. Go use one of the partition editing tools above to fix it
To change it you will have to reformat the hard drive. I used EASEUS Partition master to format mine (it's free)

The thing is, I have nowhere to back up this stuff. I have all my games (including my video footage for editing) on my FANTOM 2TB drive. From searching a few posts, I saw that it's possible to do it without having to format.

Ok first, don't panic! You can easily get your GC discs running fine by restoring the MIOS. All you need is NUS Downloader. Run the program, click database > system > MIOS > latest version, select "pack wad", deselect "keep encrypted contents" and then click "start nus download". You'll find your WAD in the folder [NUS Downloader]\titles\0000000100000101\10\RVL-mios-10.wad, you can then copy it to your SD card and reinstall MIOS overwriting DM (using whatever WAD manager you like). You should keep a copy of this file on your SD card anyway, so that you can restore MIOS anytime.

If you want to play your backups without formatting your HDD, then get an SD/SD-HC card with enough free space for your games (most GC games are only 500mb-1.1GB once shrunk), put the games into the SD card like this: [SD]\games\game-title[game-id]\game.iso. You can shrink the iso files, but if the extension is .gcn, change it to .iso. The SD card should be formatted FAT32 with 64kb sector size or less (unlikely that you'll find it's formatted NTFS unless you did that yourself). The program for shrinking the iso is GCMUtility. Then use DML to load instead of DM (link).

Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.

He couldn't eat until after his MRI, when he had a bomb pop.
