hi everybody!!!
after some playing with my ds lite i realised that if i shake the unit a bit (like vibrating with a dual shock controler or when you move a bit your system the lower screen gets full of "very soft scanlines" (like the option in the emulators on pc) and if you stop shaking it stops ... :'(
I mean it only happens on the lower screen cause the upper one is always with the same definition.
i dont notice it to much but i got the same effect by playing castlevania in the begining in those snow places and when i jump (the lower screen also gets full of very thin lines so i dont know if its normal , but i dont think so
unsure.gif
can some one tell me if it 's normal whenyou move a bit to get those (almost unnoticeable soft lines in the lower screen ?) have you tried jumping in castlevania on the snow and watch closely your lower screen? please give some feedback and thank you very much for reading this

Got a video of how much you shake it?

From reading your post it dosen't sound like much and if I had that problem it would piss me off like crazy. Go to EB and shake their demo and see if you can replicate what your getting. If you can't exchange your unit.

no i dont shake to much...
frown.gif
i just need to simulate as if i had some vibration controler shaking in my hands.
even when i move normaly my hands while playing (i see those very soft and thin lines almost unnoticeable on the lower screen) but if the system stands still they stop so its like if they react with the movement...
i almost dont noticed but i see them in there (its like having a dead pixel on some place that you usually dont see but after you spotted it ... you know... it´s always there looking at you) :'(
Holy crap ...
anyone else has this problem???
I think i will spend my holidays without playing the machine...
Time for some warranty recall...

no my DS lite does this as well but i think its normal to be honest. Its fine when the screen is still but i see the lines too when you move the DS up and down, im sure its just something to do with the screen refresh. Its worse in some games than others but its nothing wrong with the DS

thanks for replying me but i think its not so normal like that, because the upper screen doesnt do that on mine (what about yours ???) and if it was a screen refresh why it would be when we move the system a lil bit?
does it also happens when you move it very litle ??)
any more line haters who spotted this like me?
How about the old fat system? is it the same ???

well you are a fast replyer ...
i wonder if any anyone else also spotted this, or if im just being some sort of paranoid as im dont have anyone nearby with a ds or some place with a demo machine to try but...
we need more user feedback because (this could be a bad manufactured batch with lower screen problems you know... hardware releases are always a problem) so im also curious on even more new and old system lower screen users feedback as well to help us (please post also from your experience) as if there are users without this ...
you know ...
we payed for a system without issues so i feel i must know about others to decide to return it or not.
Its my first ds system but if the old phat one (assuming that does not have this) why should we keep a unit like this? we need some feedback everybody . Thanks

I'm not really sure what you mean but I can't see any lines going over the screen in Castlevania. All that stuff that is going on in the village there is just effects from the lights and snow.

I think the NDS screen is interlaced .. Draws even lines, then odd lines, then even line and so on.
Maybe by shaking it around you're able to see the fields being drawn and that would look like scan lines.
The GBA screen is interlaced and I can see the fields being drawn all the time on mine..

i see but my main question is ...
why that happens only with the lower screen (as they are equal and i read that you can even swap them)
besides only two persons posted here the same simptoms ....
so nah...

it´s time for some warranty action...
i payed for a full working system.
not a parcial working one.
i have the right for two years to demand a full working ds and im not willing for the "it's O.k. and i can live with that" factor.
if it is a pixel, if it is a crack, or bad screen, shoulder buttons, bad pad, or what might still happen with this crappy piece of hardware (its really getting on my nerves) we must demand the good unit we payed for.
I assume that most of you who have read this don't have this problem (cause if it was the case i was expecting more replys) so i'm going to send it back right away.

anyway thanks for all repliers out there !!!

My DS Phat does that too. And my GBA SP. It has something to do with the backlight.
I think it's normal behaviour, and it's barely noticeable (maybe more noticeable on the DS Lite, because of the brighter backlight, but still barely), so I doubt they will be willing to replace your DS.

Try yelling at them. If you nag long enough they will give you anything just to get rid of you...

Just don't (don't) tell them it's normal behaviour for a DS Lite, or they won't want to replace it.

So, nag first, test later

I just tried shaking mine like mad and I saw no lines on either screen, I did it for a good minute. I do have a Japanese model so maybe it is constructed better. I will try it on my black DS Lite when it arrives in a couple of days and see if it has the problem. Just a question but why would you need to shake it that much?

well its over now!!!
i exchanged it in store and now i have a new unit without those awful "scanlines" and i never realised that my d pad was so shitty... now i have also a great working one.
the lower screen still makes a tiny something, but nothing compared with what i had before so im now much more happy with this one (let´s hope everythings ok)
my advice is if you have these and still have your system in time for exchange do´n't look back and exchange it right away.
gosh i really hate the (i can live with that factor)

Any reason why you just didn't adjust either VR1 or VR2 (can't remember which adjusts the lower screen) like I said in my post? They control some kind of sync and/or dc-offset and will remove those "scanlines". They are commonly known, weird that no one else heard of them.

The reason why you see them better when shaking the unit is not because off the ds itself, but your brain, which detects the not in sync backlight and display or whatever more easily.

Well, im glad that the one you got had a better dpad. You could have got one with another a real defect just aswell. Cheers

i think its like making a motorboat sound with your lips makes screens distort. i dont think its a problem with the DS its just a drawback of using this type of display.
