Hi All,

Just got a wii with 4.2e and was going to use modmii to hack.
Should i update to 4.3e first or just leave it at 4.2?
I know the rest but just want to be 100% sure before i start.

Thanks

No! Updating to 4.3 would be a really stupid thing to do. You would have to buy an exploitable game to hack the Wii if you did that. 4.2/4.3 updates have not offered any improvements over 4.1.

Easiest option would be to leave it at 4.2E. Objective 1 of the Modify ANY Wii 4.3 & below, Up to 4.3, any serial, all wii colors, any region thread shows that the latest "homebrew friendly" firmware is System Menu 4.2.

The ModMii for Windows, Mod ANY Wii w/ Ease (no wi-fi required) thread may also be of use.
Actually the most "homebrew friendly" System Menu is still 4.1, despite what the first guide says. I'm against people updating past 4.1. If you are already on 4.2, then it is safer for most just to stay there, but updating from 4.1 to 4.2/4.3 will only have negative affects. They are small, but there aren't any benefits, so there is no reason to go through the risk of updating when you won't gain anything.

Ok thanks everyone for clearing that up.
Now i have a usb hard drive and will add games and use wiiflow which im hoping to put on the wii dash can someone explain how i can do this? Do i need a forwarder channel?
Also when i put games on the hard drive am i best just to format to ntfs and then add iso manually or should i format to wbfs and use wbfs manager as i heard it reduces the size of the iso?

Thanks heaps everyone.

Format it as FAT32 then use Configurable USB Loader or WiiFlow to rip the games to your HDD. They will automatically be scrubbed and split (if necessary).

You will need a forwarder channel if you want to launch the loader from the System Menu. I recommend using Config, but if you are going to use WiiFlow, you will need to find a channel for that. Hopefully someone will post a link to a reliable one. I'm not that familiar with WiiFlow, as I prefer the compatibility of Cfg over the eye candy of WiiFlow.

I know there's no advantage of 4.3 over 4.1 but are there really disadvantages?
I've been a 4.1 user for the longest time and just recently updates to 4.3
The system menu itself has no negative effect as long as you have the latest HBC.

This offcource only applies AFTER you have modded your Wii.
On the other hand, if you would use modmii you can have everything up to date in one go.
e.g. a fully hacked Wii with the latest HBC and Sytem menu + IOS.

Let's put aside the brick protection that 4.1 offers, and pretend that 4.1 is the same as 4.3.

If the Wii is a virgin, an exploitable game will be required to hack it. If it's already softmodded, the OP will end up losing Priiloader. A mistake like using the real IOS80 on a region changed Korean Wii, forgetting to install IOS60 to slot 80, or a power outage would lead to a full brick. Installing the wrong region will give a region brick. Now why put a user through those risks when there is no benefit to updating?
