It looks ok for Phones & Tablets, maybe even for a 'media center' pc..... but for a standard desktop - no chance

There's no way I'd would want this for my Home PC - can you imagine having to use the mouse to 'scroll through' those large icons (if you don't have a touch screen) just to get to the one you want ?!?!

Oh boy... For a media centre PC, I'd seriously LOVE to see Kinect support. That would be so hectic and I wouldn't have to lose my remote any more!

Well even if there is a "normal" computer interface, with all that experimenting about the other gui i believe there will be many bugs and many holes for hacker.

Yes because experimenting with the GUI has such a huge effect on the security... because GUI = OS after all, right?

Bugs? Ofcourse there will be bugs thats what updates are for

Those pictures are from the video. If you watch the video, you will realise that is how "old" programs run on Windows 8. In a Windows 7 interface.

This Windows 8 thing looks pretty sweet IMO, but not really great for a desktop PC. There is NOTHING in the article to suggest this interface is only for tablets. From what I heard in the video, it seems that it definitely IS going to be for desktops as well.

I like how you can easily have two apps side by side. Although switching between apps looks a bit inconvenient, having to scroll through every one. And the interface is undeniably very aesthetically pleasing.

While the tablet interface just overlays a Win7-like desktop workspace, just how much of a difference is this work area from the actual Win7 workspace? If there is barely any different, then I see no point in using Win8. XP worked just fine (and was preferred) while Vista was out, so unless Win8 adds something other than the Tablet interface, I'm sticking with Win7.

Everyone will have a computer with a touch screen when it inevitably becomes standardized. The problem with Vista is that it complicated users and had high requirements. Windows 8 has even lower system requirements than Windows 7 and will be easier for the average consumer to use.

I've only had a brief experience with a WP7 interface, but it wasn't immediately obvious exactly how to navigate it. I'm sure with a bit more time I could get the hang of it, but...it just didn't seem to appeal to me at the time.
I still think my Windows 7 computer will be alright for a while yet.

No. Vista is a perfectly okay OS. People just got a bad impression because manufacturers back then were building crappy computers that ran ok with XP but sucked with Vista's higher requirements.

Here are Vista's requirements:
1 gigahertz (GHz) 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 gigabyte (GB) of system memory (512 megabytes (MB) for Home Basic)
40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space (20 GB for Home Basic)

Did your computer have 1GB of free RAM and 15GBs of space back in 2006? These requirements were more acceptable when Windows 7 came out.

Vista was and is shit. I didn't go near Vista in 2006, I was quad booting Win XP with various linux distros. I first installed Vista on the computer I am currently using which has 16GBs of RAM as you are asking. It stayed on my computer for less than two days when I removed it to replace it with a tweaked for a desktop (by me not MS) and legal beta of Windows Server 2008*, until the Windows 7 beta release was made generally available, then I switched to that. Vista assumed users were thick it also was incompatible with just about everything. That meant you had to fight the OS for control. I don't appreciate having to use a cmd line prompt to install audio drivers. Because the OS doesn't support them and won't allow me to install them. It was shit and it is still shit. And yes it did have ridiculous hardware requirements but that was not it's main problem.

*A number of people were doing this seemingly nonsensical thing at the time. IIRQ there was even an automated program available to turn it into a more desktop friendly environment. It was superior to Vista in every way which is why we did it.

Edit: and I'm not discussing this further with you because this thread isn't about Vista.

lol no. I'm using a tablet right now with minimal effort. The main thing you're going to be doing is scrolling, which is easily accomplished by moving your thumb or index finger without the need to move the rest of your hand. This is the same as the argument people had with the Wii. You're a wimp if you consider this strenuous.

And if you want to throw Linux out there, take a look at GNOME 3.0 and Unity. Even Linux distros are moving to more touch friendly UIs.
