Awesome idea!
I must confess, although the French dub is somewhat above the average for once, I would prefer nonetheless playing the game with the voices from the very talented Japaneses Seiyū and of course the real names of the characters.
I hope the patch will work for the French version as well.

Good luck.

Good luck with the project, man. I'll have to try the english version first to have my own opinion about the voices, an undub is always welcome though.

If you really want all that then maybe you shouldn't waste your time doing this and learn Japanese so you can play the Japanese original instead?
I know a place in Chile were you can.
It's also much more useful in the long run.

Well.. playing a little with the game and all things that i said here, I managed to change the names, at least a few ones as a test.
Here a example with a emulator (no fix for DSTT yet):

Also, movies don't have voices, the voices are in the sound files.
And another thing, at least the german version, have 2 sound files that are different than the JP version: sound.pb and sound.ph.
This 2 files are like a compressed file with a lot of missing sound files of the JP version.

I have nothing I can offer to help, but I think this is a superb idea. The generic English names bother me the most. I also read that some of the genders have been changed, which would annoy me hugely.
Best of luck, can't to see what you can do.

Totally support this!
I wish to help in any way I can!

I have 0 experience in rom hacking and japanese language, but willing to learn.
What could I do? ^^'

PS: No offence to German speakers but... somehow the german version killed the song when I heard it! O.o

TyRaNtM I've been looking at the files in the sound folder and noticed 2 more files that aren't in the japanese version: J18.SAD and J19.SAD

Dunno if this helps you in any way but just felt like pointing it out! ^^'

Well, if someone wants to help, there is a important thing that can:

Searching and translating the european names to the japanese original ones.
Here are all characters in the game:

All character names in IE
(weird letters are because cleaning the file from the .dat file, just delete that).
Just download it and modify it like this:

(EUR name) (short) -> (JP name) (short)
Mark Evans Mark -> Endou Mamoru Endou

If you just want to modify the file, use a hex edit with this file:
unitbase.dat file

There are nearly 1000 names, but we need to modify the most important ones (other names should be edited later).

Hope that some people try it.

Yeah, I noticed that too, maybe is in that special file with a lot of sound files inside.

If you change the names in the unitbase.dat file, does it change the names in the dialogues too, or only in the menus ?
And which emulator are you using ?

Created a spreadsheet in Google Docs. I guess this way everyone can contribute and we can keep track of the names already translated. Just head over to this link and start editing!

I still haven't add all the 1000 names to the list but feel free to do so. Just be sure to keep the order based on the .txt file, because if not it may create a big confusion for the other people.

Awesome! Very convenient!
Try to update with more characters names that are in the file that i posted here.

EDIT: Frank Wintersea is that teacher that betrayed the Inazuma Team in the first season of the anime (and the game). I just don't know the japanese name.
EDIT: Beware of Japanese names, remember that these names have the first and last name backwards, for example, if appears Mamoru Endou, this is wrong, because here must be Endou Mamoru.
