Sorry if this has been asked before, I didn't manage to find any info that's identical to my problem!

I got a wii that is softmodded, system menu 4.1E, I got Bootmii as boot2, Homebrew channel and a few homebrew apps of course!

I have read in many sources that flashing black and white pixels may be a result of an overheating or damaged gpu!
I have some of those nasty pixels on my Wii, but the strange thing here is that they instantly appears in just a selection of applications.

They do NOT appear in the "System menu", "Homebrew channel" nor in any commercial games that I have played, both with disc and from an hdd, I have never seen them there!

But they DO appear in "Homebrew browser" and "Usb Loader GX" for example. If I close one of those applications they just disappear just as fast as they appeared when I first started the application.

My question now is if this is due to an overheated GPU? And in that case, why does it just overheat instantly in some applications and just homebrew ones?
Or is it something corrupt with my softmodded Wii that may have cause a similar behaviour? Is it something I have to fix?

I really appreciate any help I can get!! Thank you!

, but I can post a you-tube link of the same symptoms as in my situation.

This guy seems to have the problem in a commercial game, but as I said, I just have them in some homebrew applications, and they aren't that many as in this vid.

You will probably find the GPU is already damaged but only a certain pipeline. So basically if the application asks the GPU to perform a certain function that requires the use of the damaged section then artefacts or errors will occur.

My mates Wii is horrendous but only when showing transparencies and reflections. This is especially noticeable when using Wiiflow every reflection is full of artefacts but the base images are ok.

My guess is that WiiConnect24 fried that Wii's GPU.

There is a design flaw on Wii that when WiiConnect24 were left on (yellow LED), the fan on the back will not spin. Without the fan spinning, wireless module can get really hot and fry the GPU. Normally this wouldn't happen as long as your Wii is in open space and vertical standing.

Thanks for the answer, that sounds very logic! =)

Well, I read about it somewhere and I turned "WiiConnect24" off as soon as possible when I discovered the problem in an attempt to avoid further problems, but the Wii however hasn't been in vertical standing the majority of it's lifespan, so the combination of Wiiconnect24 and that has probably broken the GPU!

This is a quite early Wii, does the same problems also apply to newly manufactured wii:s today??

Mine did the same thing...............It was fine on most games but really bad on wiiware games the most. After it starts it will only get worse over time. Kept mine clean and cool and it lasted about 2 more months after that. Nintendo was great though, called them and explained the problem about the fan not turning and they replaced it for me even though it was 2 months out of warranty.

It is because of graphic layers that you get to see these artifacts.

Some games you will never see them. Other games not heavy on graphic layers, you will see them.

Funny thing is, if you play the Wii on a CRT TV, you will never see them. I guess higher resolution really brings them out.

I had the same problem. I got a black Wii. I have had it for awhile now, and no problems yet.
