@Fahennessy :
NTFS is not well supported by USBloaderGX.

Try a version from 923 to 930 (it's some revisions which have Hermes v5 compatibility), with Hermes 222 or 223 v5 as main IOS.
BUT : if it was removed, there's a reason. The code wasn't fully stable, don't use these revision with fat32/NTFS using hermesv5/cIOSx ! don't complain if it doesn't work, or if you brick your wii.

or, try the same as bjorno, but with ntfs :
* NTFS
* Latest usb beta (938 for the moment)
* beta off (but don't use internal update)
* Main IOS: Ciosx20 base 56
* please report your result, so I can help other users with NTFS

if not working, try one from 923 to 930 with the same settings.
It might freeze on the "spinning disc" when launching a game. set quickboot=ON in the preferences.

I think you need to use 249 to load from NTFS so try that. Also try r17 instead of 19.
No, rev17 will not work with NTFS. he will need either hermes or cIOSx.

Weird issue, external hard drive could possibly be damaged not sure but here's the situation.

I was running GX just fine for quite some time now but in the process of hooking my external up to my computer to transfer files I forgot to plug the usb connection into my computer and turned on the drive, now it has a power adapter so one would assume it should still be able to power up but oddly enough this thing must require both power sources because I could hear the hard drive spinning but no lights came on. Once I realized what I did I shut it off plugged the USB connection into my computer but noticed it took A LOT longer to detect the drive so much longer that now when I open a WBFS manager it'll give me an error saying it couldn't detect the drive but when I hit retry it then detects it.

Now on the problem relating to GX, similar to the managers GX will load fine and find the games on the drive BUT right after loading it'll crash, I got lucky once getting a game to load by first loading GX then turning on the drive and quickly loading a game as soon as they came up but then after trying to go back to the GX menu it crashes again.

I tried formatting the drive thinking maybe I screwed up the partitions but that didn't help (Tried just WBFS and FAT/WBFS), is it possible to damage the drive in a way where it still works but just loads slow for whatever reason. Also note that other loaders still work fine, it's just GX that crashes on me probably because of the delay in loading anything off the drive now.

@Cyan

Beta 938 causes USB Loader GX to crash when I choose my partition.
I assume Main IOS is selected if you can actually access the partition.

I'd rather not switch to hermes v5 if I don't have to.
I may just switch to fat32 instead.

edit: It seems to be working fine on r900

I was just reading on the official site, and you had a picture of this
usbloadergxscreenshotja.png

How do you get that screen on? When I click on a game, I just get the disc spinning.

Point on a game and press 2 on the wiimote, after you have press 2 you can also see game info if you press A and go back if you press B

I'm a little confused here...

Unfortunately, USBloader GX is not stable with all the cIOS you have. It work better with older one.

So you're saying we shouldn't be using cIOS20 with USB Loader GX?

QUOTE(Cyan @ Aug 16 2010, 02:32 PM) 4.c - use WBFS partition, then you can use whatever cIOS you want.

Are you saying that we *can* use cIOS20 as long as we only use WBFS?

That's what I think.

I'm only saying they removed the code (dip_plugin) which officially supported cIOSx and Hermes v5 (they both were needed for NTFS), starting from GX rev931. it wasn't stable at all, you better not use it for NTFS/FAT32.
BUT, some users reported that it's still working fine, even with that code removed

a quote from Dimok :
The changelog of usbloader gx says that the new hermes v5 and also the new ios249 (rev 18/19 [cyan: and 20 now]) are not supported because the support was reverted in the revs 931+. Anyone who is using those and has problems with the loader, it's their own fault.

So, I really don't know how to help other users right now, because I don't have a spare HDD in NTFS partition format to try myself.
What I tested myself and is working using rev20:
- WBFS partition, cIOSx, rev935.
- WBFS partition, cIOSx, rev927 with quickboot or sound=0
- WBFS partition, cIOSrev17 as base, booting games on cIOSx.

What I see is that a lot of users complains that NTFS it's not working, so, yes, I think it's not a good idea to use rev20 as a base with GX using something else than WBFS or FAT32.
I'm not even sure FAT32 works correctly either, it previously needed Hermes v4.
You can use another Loader, another IOS, or another partition format, choose yourself what you prefer.

For me, WBFS always worked on every loader. I made my choice (we didn't have the choice at that time
tongue.gif
).

I would gladly accept a comparative issues from users. (partition format/cIOS rev/GX rev)
I think the best help I can provide is : try many configuration yourself until you find a working set.

I agree 100% with Cyan. I have prefered to stay with WBFS as well. Mostly due to me not knowing what was compatible to install to make NTFS work and what version of GX to use. I believe I courrupted all of my .wbfs games while trying it. I still use r874 with cIOS249 r17 because I have no issues at all. I would, however, like to use r927 for the GX reloading feature.

So my question is, can I use r927 with my currently installed files with no issues other than "with quickboot or sound=0"? Is using cIOS249 r20 to boot games optional or manditory for r927?

I've ran into another problem...I can't install games. In USB Loader GX, I can see and play my games fine but it says I have 0.00GB out of 200GB free still. On top of that, I can't install games from WBFS Manager. It also says I have used up all my space. But I only have 10 games installed.

I uninstalled and installed WBFS Manager thinking it was an error but it is still there.

@Richardarkless
no, they didn't state the loader was dead.
Well, not here at least.

Dimok said it on an issue comment, because noob users continuously criticized, and created issues over something unrelated to USBloaderGX (saying the loader bricked their wii !) without understanding what they were talking about.
and Dimok added : "Because of idiots like you and comments like this the development stopped on usbloader gx and may not be resumed anymore. "
You can say thank you to those idiots.

But, on this thread, there's no official information, and the loader already was staled few months, and the work on it started again.
Maybe they will update it when it will really be needed (like a new game protection, etc.). (I'll gladly help Dimok again if he ask me).
I think r-win said he will re-implement correctly the reverted code later, but maybe he did quit too.
for the moment the loader is working fine for many users, there's no need to update.
On its current state, USBloaderGX only officially accept this :
WBFS -> IOS249 rev17
FAT32/NTFS -> Hermes V4 !

you won't put fuel in diesel car, here it's the same. LEARN how it works and what the program need, if you don't like it, go use another one.
If you decide to change the energy (cIOS) without changing the engine (internal code), don't complain that your car (homebrew) doesn't work.

You can use 927 with your current setup, without even using quickboot or sound=0, because you are still on rev17.
Only cIOSx (18+) have the issue with the banner's sound and need to either have the spinning disc disabled (quickboot=ON) or the banner sound disabled (volume=0).
But you can install cIOS[56]rev20 on slot250 or install Hermes 222[37+38]v4 and use it on individual game preference for problematic games (music games, monster hunter tri, arc rise fantasia),
Edit :
Ah, yes, you need something in particular, either :
- The forwarder (UNEO) and the boot.dol in apps/usbloader_gx/

I'm completely confused with all of this IOS 58 crap going around. Will GX be made to run off of an unpatched IOS 58? Or any other loaders for that matter?

how do you get samurai warriors 3 to work? im on the latest version usbloader gx, ios 248rev14 4.2E it's a dual layer game. Would i need to install hermes cios or something? i've been pretty confused about hermes cios and never really understood the purpose of it...
Thanks!You already asked the same thing in the game thread, wait for the answer. and by reading the game thread, it seems to need 576i only ! try changing video mode.
then, if it doesn't work, ask in the game thread, not here. your config is good, it must be related to the game itself (you know there's a bad dump too).

No, I don't think the loaders will start using IOS58 without a cIOS.
first, USB from IOS58 is slower than other cIOS.
second, some games need another functionnality, not present in IOS58 (well, maybe they work, it will need tests), like musical games/Monster hunter tri/arc rise fantasia.
Third : No access to NTFS or WBS partition !
no drive emulation either (di module) to boot games from usb (even from fat32).

@Cyan
I have just started using rev927. I like the reloading feature after game exit. I have noticed that both install functions do not work. (Using the + install button and the insert disk popup window both fail) Its not a real big deal, i can always load another version using MMM App Manager to install games. In case you are wondering, I only use the install function when adding 1 game at a time to the USB. When there are multiple games that need to be added, I use Wii Game Manager.

Are you aware of any other issues that r927 has that r874 doesn't? I haven't run across any just yet. Since you have been using it longer than me, I didn't know if you could give me the heads-up on other issues.

Thanks

I don't use a lot of features so I can't list all the problems, I use it only as a game launcher (no homebrew launcher, etc.).
What I found are :

Problem : sometime the "install game" popup window appears while there is no disc in the drive. (Or maybe it was on older revision ? I didn't have that bug recently)
Solution : say no. if there's really a bug in the dump process, use an older revision.
but I think I dumped an original game without problem. I don't know why yours didn't work.

Problem : You can't use Ocarina when loading another file (external Alt_dol, .bca)
info : it's a bug existing since a long time. It was corrected in r935, along with the .wip patching
tongue.gif

Solution : use internal_dol, or update to 935 to use .wip patch if you need a modified dol.
you don't need the .wip file for some games, the patching is done internally : New super mario world (since r822), Prince of Persia (since r935)

That's the only problems I found with 927.
Of course, using the recommended setup (rev17 on WBFS).
I'm using the List view and favorite to launch games.

Thanks a lot for the information. I will continue to use r927. I too, only use it as a game launcher. I don't use any Ocarina or .wip so no problem there for me.

FYI: When the dump process initially starts, typically it will show you the game title and size. Mine just freezes with a white window with no text at all.

Can this loader load both PAL games on a USA machine? Sorry if this has been asked, i searched and came up with dismal results.

Cheers
