The Legend of Zelda: The Shards of Light
'Goodbye release'
20100815_the_legend_of_zelda_-_the_shards_of_light_(demo)_(nds_game).png

BassAceGold's unfinished Legend of Zelda project which has involved many years of coding has been released in an incomplete, but definitely playable state. He will no longer be working on the project and therefore has named the release 'Goodbye Release.'[/p]

Developers Notes said:
I will not be continuing this project as explained in my previous post so here is The Legend of Zelda: The Shards of Light. Only one boss is partially coded, the graphics are incomplete and inconsistent, the music is unfinished, there are missing sounds, and plenty of bugs with debug menus and buttons intact. So really you can’t complete the game. You can walk around and explore levels and collect most of the items but that is about it. Just a really big demo.

To run, make sure you have a nitroFS compatible flash card card. The save file will be created on the root of your card.

I will not be working on this game anymore so please do not email me about bugs. The source code will also not be released as currently it is in no shape to be released as it spans a few years of me learning coding techniques etc.

Too bad, this looks like a great piece of homebrew. I would have really loved to see it completed.

Same here, but we give you props for what you've done so far. I'm glad that you had learned coding techniques throughout it's production.

I still say he should've come with us to the other irc network, and asked if anyone wanted to help, not stay behind on ircstorm and then vanish.
All the spare time I have, I would have tried to help if he had only asked; even if that meant learning about code(would be better to learn it, regardless). That year away from your old online friends is to blame, BAG.

From the screenshot, the game looks pretty solid. I'll wait for the completed version.
did you not read the post?
the project has been released "as-is" with closed source
when or if BAG decides to release source there may be a completed version but don't count on it..

I bet most of us wanted to see it complete.
But it still looks good!
Thanks for the time and effort you put into this.

Such a promising Homebrew project.

Shame it's not going to be finished, I wonder if I beg enough, I can get some source code?

Hmmm, I appear to be talking to myself on a message board... I would so love to see this finished.

It's understandable that BAG should cease on the production of the Zelda homebrew. Personal lives start creeping in the older you get and places you used to hang out are but a distant memory. Furthermore, with the 3DS coming in the near future, it doesn't make sense to continue a project which may not be completed until after the 3DS comes out.

*smacks Omega_2 with a squeaky cakehammer* It's unfair to "blame" BAG for anything. Sure, the homebrew could've been open-source and could've used volunteers, but in the end the decision was all up to BAG. It's not like he owed DS homebrewers around the world, and he's still provided everyone with other programs which have been great. That said, it's still a shame the game was never able to be completed.

Here's hoping you continue your good work for the homebrew community, Bass.

*Also, luke_c, GBAtemp staff? xD Well I guess that's what happens when the Cake Ninja leaves the DS community for a long time! x)*

Doesn't look too bad, I might give it a try.

I remember when this project was first announced, there was a big ruckus about something related to it, I can't recall what it was though...

That's what happens when you don't stay in contact with your eBuddies! It's been such a long time, good to hear from you again cz

I is not blaming BAG for anything, I'm blaming all that irc server hopping that split a bunch of us apart, making it harder for those that had to go work for companies in Japan that much harder to find us.
Also, the cake is a lie.
