Hello everyone.
My DS Lite broke a year ago and I still haven't got the chance to repair it and I really want a new DS now.

First, the DSi looked awesome but then the DSi XL came. So I want the DSi XL now.

Though, people say it's pixelated and well... I don't really like pixelated graphics, but others said it's not that noticable. Oh and the viewing angles fix was a really needed thing for me - so I really want only a DSi XL. However, I want to test it myself first.

Now... then came the 3DS. With that in mind, and the thing that it may come out before Christmas (the end of the year), I have this question in mind:

Should I buy the DSi XL (or maybe the DSi if it's too pixelated or maybe-maybe too big even though I love big stuff like the Xbox 360's controller - hey, it's not that big by the way! It's just about right!)
or should I wait for the 3DS? (and meanwhile, repair my DS Lite once and for all 'till the 3DS hits and buy it)

You see I have a lot of DS games I haven't played, big titles, that I haven't beat yet nor even played yet. But looking at the 3DS, it's going to be a superior console and I can play DS games on it, too and maybe it will upscale them, even.

Thanks for your opinions in advance!

Depends, do you own the original cartridges or do you own a flashcard?

If you own the originals then you could wait since you can play them on the 3DS as well.

If you own a flashcard then either fix your DS Lite or get the DSi, since the 3DS probably won't play flashcards.

Or if you really really want to play your games then get your DS Lite fixed, sure the DSi XL has bigger screens, but the 3DS is smaller again and from own experience it takes a while to get used to smaller screens again

Well I really dont think we will see the 3ds till sometime next year so id say its safe to buy a new dsi xl. I bought mine in japan on launch day and I dont touch any of my other ds systems now but as the poster above said its really hard to get used to the smaller ones after it and as far as it being pixelated its not that bad and you wont really notice it i think. my dsi ll has been a god send for me because of big hands so if you have bigger hands it should feel better also

Thanks for the replies. Some say the pixelation is very bad, while some say it isn't that bad. Now I don't know. I have to see that for myself. Though the size and better viewing angles would worth it all the way.

I seen Nintendo will announce the release date for the 3DS on September 29. Should I wait for that?

Really.... I think you should just wait for the 3DS, but thats just me, it's really your choice. I would also recommend the DSi to the XL. The XL doesn't have any benefits over the DSi.

it does have benefits for people that have big hands and that have siblings watching over your shoulders when you play

Whoa, the DSi XL clearly wins there!

Can you make close-up pictures of the upper screen in that Poké Center (both with the DS Lite and the DSi XL)? That would be helpful.

If it were me I would fix my DS lite and then wait for the 3ds since I bought a DSi the day it came out and now I know about the 3DS I wish I had waited. I'm still gonna get the 3DS though!

Depends really. If you have gba games but not an gba/sp system then I would probably get your lite repaired as it works out cheaper for you and you hav access to more games, but I haven't found gba gameplay that great on the ds and personally think playing the gba games on their original system is better. If you have an original gba then I would probably just get the DSi because apart from gba games (which, as I said, is not that great from personal experience) the DSi is just plain better than the DS Lite in every other aspect.

Then there is the issue with what to get, a DSi original or XL. To be honest, I think the XL screens are too big, while the system itself is not as portable as the original. If you like playing games on the go then I would personally get the DSi as the screen difference is not that huge, but if you like playing your handheld games at home then I don't see any problem with getting the XL as you can just easily.

Just some things to consider. I am planning on getting a DSi within the coming week and wouldn't mind waiting a bit for the 3DS when it's released.

depends on how much money you have to go with also.
(gona calculate using the prices in sweden)

DSi xl (cheapest i found) 290,16$ + DSTWO 34.95$ = 325,11$
DSi (cheapest found) 217,25$ + DSTWO 34,95 = 252,2$

I would get the acekard 2i, not a SCDSTWO... but... tell me, is the SCDSTWO good?

Oh and, I would play with my DS on the go, not really at home as I have better stuff home.

SCDSTWO is awsome, it plays both Metroid fusion and Metroid Zero Mission without problem and that would be reason enogh for me to get it

I would wait for the 3DS. It's going to be released soon (Q4 of 2010 or Q1 of 2010) and it can play DS/DSi games.
You should repair your DS Lite and wait until the 3DS is out.

I was just wondering if you decided yet and if my photos helped you.
Yeah, your photos was very helpful, thank you!

That's why I'm in this situation:
- If I repair my DS Lite, I wouldn't really want to play games on it because the DSi is better.
- But I wouldn't want to, if the DSi XL is superior to than that
- But if the DSi XL is pixelated and maybe too big (but I don't think I can't handle it - yes I'm going to use it on-the-go) then it's not so good and then,
- The 3DS would be the best, but it's still haven't released yet so I would have to wait, and also, I wouldn't really play old DS games on it, when I could play awesome 3DS games on it!

So there you have it... any ideas?
