Usually install the cios files, tbr if i have to first then use a safe method to update to 4.2, i tried it this way though and about shit bricks here.....

"*Really important stuff here! Do not skip or alter steps in any way!*
IOS70-64-v6687.wad
& System Menu-NUS-v481.wad [NTSC-J = v480; PAL = v482]
Then proceed to install the remaining 36 different IOS files & Shopping Channel-NUS-v18.wad
*End.*"

I was worried about missing one of those 36 IOSs and messing shit up. Also didn't want to accidentally install 6887 again, don't know if that'll mess with anything. Wish there was an easier way to do that. Otherwise this guide is amazing thanks.

I get the same problem as someone a few pages previous where I have upgraded my system menu to 4.2e but when I go to data management/channels and then click on the SD card, the screen just freezes. I have noticed that I wtill have homebrew channel installed from when it was system menu 3.4e and 4.1e.

Why is the SD card screen freezing. I have re-formatted the SD card (2gb) and installed the files onto the card again but it still won't load?

I e-mailed "[email protected]" about 5 days ago for the required files, and received nothing.

Anyone point me in the right direction to get them elsewhere?

Thanks.

Got the files. Thanks a lot guys.

I'm almost there now.
I have a problem though.

I am redoing a Wii that previously had HBC + Neogamma installed.
My friend's kid then accepted a Nintendo System Update. It's now on 4.2.

I have got the HBC and Neogamma installed, but when I put a back up disc in, it says "Error 001 unauthorized device has been detected".

The only thing I couldn't follow on the guide was "Deleting stub ios's" there wasn't any of the listed ones to delete.
Reading again,it seems like it is no longer possible to run back ups from the neogamma channel as before, but only from the SD card?

QUOTEFor playing your disc backups, you should either:
1] Download NeoGamma & set it up on your SD card.
2] Download Softchip & set it up on your SD card.
3] Download cIOSCorp 3.5 for playing games directly through the disc channel. [read the goddamn readme first!]

If so, how do I put Neogamma on the SD card, as what I have is a wad file?

I have LU64 with 3.4U system menu. I had installed CIOS and got the black screen then got LU64.rar that fixed it (installed IOS16.wad and did the same for LU64.wad).
This allowed me to run USB loader.

Can I apply the procedure in the OP to my LU64 although it was previously softmoded? Thanks in advance!

Anyone?

Did you install cIOS v15 by any chance?

I have NeoGamma v7 installed as a channel and when I installed cIOS v15 I got the same 001 error. I then installed cIOS v14 and the error went away.

Also if you don't have the IOS 2xx to delete then dont worry about it. I think you only delete them if you have them already. As they get installed later in the guide.

Im going to install NeoGamma r8 to try and get NSMB working now.

Hope that helps.

It sure did help!

I must be blind, but I can't see where it says to install the Cios v15/14 in the guide.
Added it now, and up and running again.

Thanks all that helped.

Fantastic guide. It worked perfectly for me and it was actually quite simple. I've always been confused about this whole softmodding thing.

Just keep trying, and this is offline install. IDK if it matters because I was online with all of the other installs around the web. I was up for two days. This install tutorial is the only one that matters. Done 15min I have to pinch myself.

I have a wii 4.2u, in this guide it says to skip it if you're not on 4.2 yet, but when I read through the update to 4.2 section it says there is a part that requires installing the homebrew channel and bootmii that is needed in part 2 "Modify 4.2" can you set me straight how does my current unmodded wii already have homebrew channel and bootmii on it if I have not updated anything other than the internal 4.2u update direct from Wii?

The first part of that tutorial mentions downgrading... I know the tutorial is probably quite easy after that part but want to make sure I don't miss any early steps or confuse anything. With 4.2u am I really supposed to just go to the 2nd part "Modify 4.2" ? Really?
Will this get answered or is it considered a stupid question?
Based on how the texts are worded, I don't think this is out of line.... it's not really explained either.

I'm being thorough.

If you are on 4.2U then u just skip to the "Modify 4.2" as the homebrew channel and bootmii have to be reinstalled to dodge upside down homebrew channels etc. The guide only works on 4.2 wii's thats why the update is there so if your on 4.2 then u dont have to update.

@xzxero =P. The guide updates to 4.2 then tells u to install cioscorp v3.5 but the readme of cioscorp says to install corp then update ^.^ contradictions are for the lose. Althought i think ill wait for scioscore before i install something like that anyways.
