or install the GC backup loader and just load them on the wii from a burnt DVD. I personally prefer it over the chip option. has more features to work with. though I have yet to test if Wiigators backup launcher works with a chip installed.

My other favorite game is already coming as a wiimake Resident Evil REmake for the wii...

Super Smash Melee would be useless, cause we already have Brawl..
Melee would be pointless because it wouldn't use motion.

Aside from that, the posters who are saying it should be easy to make the MIOS read usb drives don't realize if it was that simple, it would have been done by now. There's no magic GUI that lets you patch it to do whatever you want, everything needs to be recoded.

The code would need to be changed not just to boot the game, but continue to be able to read it from the drive. Which would mean that the Mios would not only have to be able to start the game via HDD, but continue to load from the iso.

QUOTE(Hells Guardian @ Apr 26 2009, 10:00 PM) First of all in order for this to work we would have to break the harware restrictions that are applied when the MIOS loads. withoutn MIOS Gamecube does not play. So simply put when the wii loads anything gamecube related it forces into gamecube mode which means that all usb and wifi conection is then disabled. It is possible that someone might be able to find a way to fix this but I highly doubt that it will happen anytime soon.

the fix to make it use the usb is the hard part, once thats done the rest seems like it would just be alot of copying of the code from the cios and usb loader and making it constantly read from the usb instead of the disk has already been done, but i'm not the greatest coder so I can't confirm any of this.

From what I understand it isn't just a thing about the MIOS not having USB support or whatever, but that GCN mode is hardcoded to not have access to the rest of the Wii features. But I'm no expert and am likely wrong.
You could get around this by having an IOS that doesn't break into Gamecube mode when running Gamecube code. Or at least that's the direction I'm trying to go, but like I said, I'm really not very good at this. I haven't really made much progress since last time I've checked this thread. Though now I can get games to start loading, I think. Or at least it does something that causes the usb HDD to be busy after the video mode changes. I'm still not really sure if it's trying to load, or if it's just crashing into a loop.

I need to do a lot more reading on the differences between Wii and Gamecube mode, because I think it's breaking into GC mode when the loader actually gets ahold of the game.

This whole thing is kind of moot because even if I do somehow get it to work, I have no fucking clue how to make it so that gamecube memory cards and controllers and all that shit would work.

Make it compatible with the Classic Controller.. it would probably be easier, and would be SO much cooler!

playing gamecube game with classic controller would be awesome aswell.

There are converters and such... but it probably will not work as the Wii is running in gamecube mode, sending no bluetooth data to the Wiimote.

Here's what I understand. Once BootMii comes out, a lot of new things will become possible because what it allows you to do is have FULL control over system hardware and software BEFORE the Health Screen. That means that you essentially have a Wii capable of running whatever code you want it to. So this in mind, might it be possible to keep the Wii from going into Gamecube mode? Also, even if that's not possible, it may still be possible to get Gamecube mode to read from a USB device if the Loader somehow keeps the USB ports from becoming disabled, maybe by as said before emulating the DVD drive on a USB port perhaps tricking the Wii into disabling the DVD Drive and keeping the USB port open because it thinks that it is a DVD Drive. Maybe this can be implemented by making a partition on the USB device that emulates a DVD Drive instead of software on the Wii (the Loader) trying to acheive this.

I think I'll keep my mouth shut on this one. 1 Some of us though SDHC wasn't possible. 2 Some of us thought USB 2.0 wasn't possible. 3 Some of us didn't think using a file system that supported over 4GB for a file was possible.

Many times some of us were wrong and some generous person made these things possible.

I'm just going to say I hope someone generous enough to share it can make it work

I'm using technical basis, once BootMii is released, we're gonna see a lot of creative and awesome things happen in the homebrew scene. And besides, what else are forums for? Discussing!

add online multiplayer (better than brawl pls), a nice graphics update and Id be willing to pay 50 euros for that.

This is an awesome idea.

Simple......
The problems are that when in GC mode the USB can't be accessed (not without too much work) This is pretty much a harware limitation and using Nintendo code will force this on us.

The solution will surely be once MINI has the correct drivers in place for USB and someone writes a GC loader to use the cMIOS and USB drivers, until then I doubt any dev will put any real amount of time into this.

WiiGator & waninkoko I'm sure are working on other things just now (cBOOT & Rev12) so I can't see either tryin to do something the hard way when MINI development is underway to perhaps bypass some of the restrictions Nintendo put on the Wii.

Most simple answer......
Wait, everything comes to those who wait

Ok, if any of you knows what BootMii started on the homebrew scene, you will already know that it wont help the piracy scene at all, with BootMii installed now we can run the Wii as we pleases, but in the meaning that now we don't need to use any "N" file, FW, SysMenu on the Wii to launch and/or use homebrew code, that is all, and to get that GC USB launcher, we first need to have a USB2.0 stub in the MIOS, wich it can be a little much more complicated than to make it on a IOS, as you should (not that you do) knows, the cIOS 8 - 9 - 10 are kind of an altered IOS222 (wich is the IOS that enables the USB2.0), why altered..?? well they added:

Waninkoko's apps suport
Backup Launching support
USB .iso Loading support
among with the Wiimote and other capacities the official IOS36 has

but the thing is that, the IOS222, it is not a copy of the IOS36, like the waninkoko's cIOS are, the cIOS222 is completely homebrew made, no "N" code at all in there (otherwise it wouldn't be published at wiibrew.org), so what we need know is to add all of this supports into a MIOS, wich, like I said before, it is a little bit much more harder than to do with IOS...!!

P.S. I am not saying it is impossible, I'm just saying: "......it is a little bit much more harder than to do with IOS....", ok..??

First, it's IOS202 that's on Wiibrew. Second, it's based off of IOS36 as well. It's on Wiibrew because what's hosted is an installer, not the actual wad. IOS222 is the "other" version with the DIP module.

Never seen more misunderstoodments in one topic.. Whoa. Let me tell you something.

First of all about bootmii. People have heard that this will allow us to do anything with the wii. True, but it's like a different device then. Well, not quite but.. Applications coded for Wii (IOS) won't work with Bootmii (MINI). Of course bootmii can load an IOS and IOS dependant code can be run from there. But bottom line is that the advantages bootmii brings cannot be used with Nintendo code. Now that you know that, please tell me again how Bootmii will help you load your GC warez?

Second. Where have people comed up with the Wii features are restricted by hardware stuff? I don't believe it untill I see someone who knows something about the Wii telling it. Untill that happens I'll tell you, it's BC that underclocks the CPU, GPU and locks down the hardware before booting into GC mode. Crediar has already cracked the CPU limitation, check from his youtube page if you want. I'm not quite sure how hard would it be to unlock the USB ports etc. but I think it's certainly possible.
