I'm sorry, but a GTA Wii would suck. GTA needs the big production values and hardware to pull it through, going back to something that looks like GTA 3 would be awful.

Except this comment has no basis in fact as GTA:CW has gotten HUGE marks. It may not be selling really well, but it has scored brilliantly with nearly all reviews claiming it is a must-have for the DS. Your comment is completely untrue and grounded in pure ignorance.

And about it not selling well, Rockstar is a pretty big company. With the success of GTA as a series and some of their other hits, it doesn't really matter how well this game sells. If Rockstar wants to create a sequel or thinks fans would like a sequel, there will be one. Do you really think Rockstar created CW thinking it would sell really well on the DS? I certainly hope not because anyone with a brain stem could have told you the sales would be abysmal compared to the other GTA games and especially compared to the number of people who own a DS. When you release a "hardcore" (I hate that term) game on a "casual" (hate that one too) system, you run the risk of getting mediocre sales figures. It's just common sense.

There's absolutely zero proof of that. There's actually a megaton more proof that games can sell extremely well regardless of pirate activity. This just ain't one of those games. They should have put a "z" at the end of the title, then they would likely have sold more copies.

The bottom line is, Walmart doesn't give a shit about GTA on DS, regardless of how well Rockstar is established in the business world. Walmart (and they are the ones that truly count -- not EB or Gamestop) can't sell tons of GTA to their customers in a short period of time. If this were a GTA for either PS3 or 360, it would be a completely different story. But moms who buy games for their kids head to one of two spots in the gaming area of WallyWorld: the Wii section or the DS section.

This game would beg to differ.
I'd imagine if even a quarter of the pirates who pirated gta would have bought it, the sales would be much, much better.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Sales Are Awful

Actually this myth was recently busted, its closing in on 300K world wide.

Not only that, it was only on American charts for two weeks before it hit 88k.

To put that in comparisson....

Vice City Stories was released on October 31, 2006 and didn't make the cutoff for the October NPDs so it first appeared in the November 2006 NPD listings meaning it had a full four weeks of sales to get to 125k.

Chinatown Wars was released on March 17, 2009 and had roughly two weeks of sales to get to 88k.

If you break that down to weekly averages Vice City Stories sold ~32k units per week and Chinatown Wars sold ~44k units per week.

First Full month of sales: PSP GTA: LIBERTY CITY STORIES 158,400

First Full month of sales: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories PSP Rockstar 125,500

So the real story here is why do people want Chinatown Wars to fail? Why do certain people want the public to think its sales are bad?

There is a simple answer. I'm sure you can figure it out for yourself.

....

I blame the month it came out in. Going up against pokemon, and the overstuffed Rhythm heaven. Not to mention quality RPG's and an obscure platformer.

Then we have DSi not soon after.

That's a pc game which is infinitely easier to pirate than a ds game and there is a much larger audience for that game on pc.
Both are easy to pirate. What's so hard about buying a cart, downloading a game and putting it onto your microsd card?
The DS has a huge audience too.

There are a couple of explanations of course. I didn't really bother to read everyone's post so repetition may be present.

1) The main user base of the DS are kids.
- Most are not interested in Mature games
- Parents disallow them to play Mature games
- Shopkeepers don't allow them to buy Mature games.
2) Piracy. Self-explanatory.

So frankly speaking, releasing a Mature game on the DS has been a bad idea from the start. Sales may pick up, but don't get your hopes up too high, Rockstar.

Meh.
I wasn't all that impressed with this game.
Seems the general public shares my opinion for once.
just because it doesn't sell doesn't mean the general public isn't impressed with the game. how can you say someone wasn't impressed/was disappointed when they didn't even buy or play the game? They just aren't giving it a chance.

As for me, this has got to be one of the best DS games I have ever played so far. I am only 10% through the game and I am absolutely loving it beyond handheld gaming belief. It's in depth, great gameplay, and hasn't strayed too far away from the console games just because it is on the handheld. I am extremely disappointed for Rockstar and feel bad for them because I was really really hoping for a sequel. I absolutely love this game.

Wow...that really has to suck hard for Rockstar. On the plus side, at least it sold something.
But from what I've gathered, it's a great game, but crap happens.

it's an amazing game but the DS has absolutely no audience that wants mature and sophisticated games as proved by this game and the nonexistence of M games on DS.

Fixed.. tell a kid that you have a game full of gore, sex and mature content and he'll be all over it. Worked for me with Mortal Kombat, Duke Nukem 3D and the first GTA. My mom never cared though, in fact, she bought me the games

while this is pretty true, that still doesn't make them legally permitted to buy the game.
