I think I'll still use Pokesav to get the event Pokemon and stuff, but only after everything else.
Extract PKM files from your DP save using Pokesav DP (save button next to each Pokemon) then load them into Platinum boxes using Pokesav Platinum.Symbolic said:

This really works? if it does, I will get it since I just started playing Diamond (first 3 badges obtained).

So far,
w/ YSMENU i've noticed problems.
i got the "save file corrupted" once when i didnt do much.
then, i soft-reseted the game and the save file was corrupted again.
so, just a warning, DO NOT SOFT-RESET WITH YSMENU FOR PLATINUM.
also, save twice it saves you a lot of trouble ^^

How do you get to play and battle online with your friends in this game? Do you have to beat the Elite Four? If so, how long will that take?

As soon as you make it to oreburgh you can get your friend code to battle people with. You go into the pokemon center and go down the right stairs and talk to the nurse next to the entrance to connect to wifi and battle.
