Is your Xbox 360 red in the face? No, not that kind of red, but facing that painstakingly loathsome red ring of death? Well, if group product manager Aaron Greenberg knows anything about the situation -- and we'd imagine he does -- then it looks like the guys at Microsoft have finally found a solution to many gamers' worst nightmares. In an interview with Edge Online, Greenberg said that through repairs they've done as well as updated technology, the guys in Redmond are pretty confident that afflicted consoles should be nonexistent in the not so distant future and that they've "put the worst behind us on this." So, breathe easy obsessive gamers, you needn't worry about getting an infected console any more -- we hope.

Well most people ALREADY have a 360 so they don't have the newest xbox 360 with the latest internal revisions. I don't think they can save our consoles from dying with a firmware update sooo.... unless you have a Falcon or Jasper console you probably still kinda fucked.

Even then, the jasper and falcon boards just reduce the heat. If for any reason your console were to stay hot enough long enough the RROD will still happen. It's just made less likely by reducing the heat the console itself makes. Why did they need xclamps again?

eh most RROD's can be fixed with the x-clamp method. i dont know why microsoft adopt this method. it would save them a hell of a lot of trouble.

Hmm, well it's not like that, at least in my experience. I've made 360s overheat a lot of times and nothing happened.

The problem is in the BGA solder and the X-Clamps which make the motherboard flex too much.

Because they like to use it as a scare tactic against pirates

No, not really. If you got the RoD then just sent your xBox360 to MS. They should put the newest Boards on it and you're finished having RoD's.

I guess they're talking of Valhalla?

Valhalla
Launched Approx: Late 2009
CPU: 65nm or 45nm
GPU: 65nm or 45nm
HDMI: Yes
Power Supply: Unknown

Valhalla is predicted to be the final (or at least scheduled) revision of the Xbox 360 before the next generation Xbox is launched. Apart from the possibility of the CPU and GPU being further reduced to 45nm reducing cost of production (which will help with price decreases in retail) it is believed that both the GPU and CPU will share the same piece of board together. The benefits of this (along with the reduced need for cooling systems with a much cooler 45nm chip) is that the entire internal board within the console takes up a great deal less space (possible as much as 30% less) and as such the Valhalla could lead to an Xbox 360 Slim version. The console having a redesign and being far smaller in height or width. Due to the Hard Drive limitations it is believe that it will be shortened along its long length rather than its narrower width leading to a machine upto 30% shorter when stood upright.
With a smaller design, smaller cooling systems and lower power supply it is believed this could be the most reliable, smallest and quietest of the Xbox 360 family.

Now this one could really fix the RROD issue. Having the CPU and GPU on the same board means that there will be a single heatsink and a central solid piece. That means less board flexing.
Less board flexing, less broken soldering and less RRODs.

If it's gonna be like that, I'd love to get one.

Might want to put RUMOR on the topic title.

Anyway, YEAH, sounds like a GREAT WAY to fix my RROD 360! Just blow off another 250 on a NEW 360 that is SLIGHTLY LESS PRONE TO RROD!
