DSi? Decent Game? don't make me laugh... Their own region lock and anti piracy system will be their downfall.

I don't know but this is just throwing it out there. What happen if the hacker can put a program on the SD card that 'blocks' the updates from the DSi in order for you to play the flashcards. Like some kind of jamming device. What Nintendo didn't know is that the SD card is 'unprotected' unless you make a daily update on your DSi firmware.

How much you want to bet that the only way to stop updates from the DSi firmware is to manually put it in your by using the SD card slot or a program that jams the update from Nintendo by using the SD card by itself. Heck I won't be surprised if only you need is the SD Card just to play the DS games.

Pro's:
-17% larger screens (not that I care)
-Improved Speakers for improved sound quality. (not that I'll ever notice)
-Upgraded RAM from 4mb to 10mb (hopefully this'll benefit game developers)
-Matte finish

Ambiguity:
-Dpad is supposed to be more like the DS Phat's D-pad, possibly meaning thinner, easier to use (depends on the user entirely)
-Removal of the GBA slot but thinner console to compensate.
I, for one, play GBA games on my DS a lot, so not being able to do so would be bad.
On the other hand, I can still play them on my lite, so it's not that big of a deal that they've gotten rid of it.
In fact, it's logical. How many of you buy your gba games? You know how hard it is to get your hands on a working gba game in this day and age? Getting rid of backwards compatibility with a medium that is no longer being produced actively, oh NOES!

Con's of the DSi
-Power button is on the inside of the console, on the Lite it was where the SD card slot is now
-Region Locked DSiWare (region locking is bad, m'kay?)

Took away all the stuff I don't care about personally.
As for the firmware updates; maybe try not going online with your DSi? I joke.
As long as my DS Lite doesn't disintegrate, thus barring me from gba games, I actually don't mind the DSi.
It's just that I am completely neutral towards the cameras. I don't want them, don't need them, won't use them.

All in all, I could see myself liking the DSi.
As long as the camera's don't become the new ARBITRARY TOUCHSCREEN CONTROLS LOLOL.
And as long as firmware doesn't become something annoying.
And as long as roms work well.
And as soon as the price falls to acceptable ranges.

Same picture is being stretched to fit the bigger screens. That means loss of image quality.
Not that the DS is a winner in that, but it'll make those ugly 3d games even uglier!

Aye, loss of image quality, Hopefully DSi ware won't suffer because it will be made for those screens. Not that the DSiWare games are expected to be good, on the contrary I expect 90% of them to be shovelware and only 10% gems like they have on the iphone... Just hope they don't start making maps of roads and cities like the do for iphone, that's what kids want these days, geographical knowledge of London

I actually EXPECTED Nintendos next handheld to be atleast almost graphically comparable to PSP but sadly, this is not that D: But I guess then again Nintendo is hardly the best company on graphics, it's more about the gameplay and interaction so atleast the DS still excels in that area, whilst PSP can only hope they get a touchscreen on the PSP 2 (even though I heard a rumour about that was true) If Nintendo realises what people WANT on their consoles, even check IGN once in a while they'd have known that THIS

is what the gaming world wants

No, It won't benefit developers of official games.
But if the DSi get hacked, maybe homebrew developers can use it..

DSibrew.orgThe DSi runs in certain permission modes similar to the Wii where running backwards compatibility games turns off the extra hardware and clocks down the CPU.

I really have to strongly disagree with the 'no piracy' argument for not getting a DSi. (And I'm going to guess that when someone gets ROMS to run from the SD slot, THEN Nintendo will start bricking.) I mean, we've all got DSes that can have piracy, so if we desperately want to pirate, use an older DS. If you want the new DSi software, use your DSi. That's what I'm going to do. I don't think it's just the hardware differences that will lead me to buying it, either. The new software that's on the DSi is much better than the original DSes.
As for the graphics, the processor IS much faster, and with more RAM, if Nintendo doesn't do anything then homebrew coders can do something with the beefier hardware. However, to be honest, I don't think Nintendo will do much about it. The "old" gaming world wants better graphics, but the "new" gaming world that Nintendo has created doesn't care and wants Imagine titles.

And now for my take on the list:

Pro's:
-17% larger screens
-Removed the DS Logo from the outer shell. (YAY! I had this problem with the outside of my DS not being totally flat. OCD...)
-Improved Speakers for improved sound quality.
-A few millimetres thinner
-Connect to the internet and DSi shop for instant downloads of new applications and software using Nintendo points (Formerly known as Wii Points)
-Built in Web browser for wifi connection on the go in the absence of a computer.
-Upgraded RAM from 4mb to 10mb
-Inclusion of two cameras. (I don't have a digital camera myself, so this is welcome for me, at least. I just won't modify them and play into Nintendo's "play with your photos/music" idea.)
-Soft reset. (Sure. Good stuff.)
-Matte finish, no shiny surfaces anymore (no fingerprints but looks slightly tackier IMO)

Con's of the DSi
-Battery life
-Only plays AAC music

A lot of them I really don't care about... so I removed them.

(And now, looking at this post, I think it might be a bit controversial to a lot of people's views. Please don't flame. Please?)

Even though both cameras are infact 0.3 mp It doesn't justify the price tag compared to a Lite
mad.gif

Nintendo is a games company, if we want music, camera get a phone which can call and also browse the internet ( A lot faster internet browsing and get connection anywhere)
Personally i think Nintendo made the wrong decision, I wanna go to a parallel universe where they just made
DS2_3.jpg
or even
ds2_1.jpg

The Nintendo DSi is just not a big enough advancement worthy of my £149.99 so I'll be going with the Black DSL at £99 and falling.
Hopefully next time Nintendo get their act together.

EDIT: And I wouldn't mind paying the difference even if it was near double PSPs price considering it's touch screen and there's two.

I really think Nintendo won't go bricking random DSi's. They will just block it or something.

And whats the big deal about GBA removal?
Did you see how the DSi was SUPPOSED TO have a GBA slot? It was huge and retarded. Then, it got removed at the last second, right before production.

I just don't see the point of extra bulk. So you can't use your slot-2 flashcart, boo hoo. You still have a phat or a lite, and if you have a computer you can even play your GBA games on that. If you really like GBA games you would have gotten a GBA micro. It is extremely portable, the screen is downsized, pixels compressed. GBA games look AMAZING on it. Would you want to play your GBA games on this stretched screen anyways?

About the camera, It is like a cell phone camera, for kids... Maybe you would use it for quick snaps and just friendly pictures, and maybe even spy shots of the newest Apple product. You could be the next Mr. Blurry cam. What I really hope is that games will NOT use unnecessary usage of the cameras. First, it wastes EVEN MORE battery life, and it will be weird if you are seen in the subway waving to your DSi.

I think the price is unreasonable though. I want to get it, as it is matte. When the price drops to maybe 150, then I will be on line. 170 is totally unreasonable. You could get a PSP with that kind of money.

Y'all best hope the camera doesn't become the new touch screen or Microphone, that would be evil.

But don't you think it's just terrible how slow Nintendo are moving on, PSP 2 will be out soon and feature a touchscreen, then the only thing going for Nintendo will be that they have the best game companies registered to them.

I'm pretty sure it'll sell really well. They are aiming at an age group that you are probably not in... so you wouldn't understand. And most of the people here are opinionated because they already have a ds lite and want to assure themselves and gain confidence that the DSi sucks so they have a reason they won't buy it. Also, you can't be mad at Nintendo for maybe adding firmware that might brick your DS, as in the first place, what most of flashcart users are doing is illegal.
(just my opinion)

And I think the PSP2 is still a rumor? Don't jump to conclusionssss

Prolly a good buy if you got a DS Phat, and i'm thinking they are aiming for casual gamers, which isn't that bad imo.

About AAC!

I'm attending a course in compression, and know some of the differences between AAC and MP3 is.
MP3 is a streaming audio format, it is decoded while it's playing.
AAC is decoded when opening the file, which makes it easier to manipulate in real time

(or something like that)

Either way, I'm not at all interested with the DSi
