I have built a new firmware for my original R4 Card from the latest YSMenu from 1-1-2009 using R4YSauto 0.02.

Simply changed the date on the new zipfile to the old one :-)

Works like a charm.

However, Star Wars - The Clone Wars - Jedi Alliance still doesn't work.

thx for the info on how to install using v0.0.2 and it worked.. the thing that I noticed was when I tried to play an .nes or .GBC it would not load when I clicked on ninja turtles.nes. Therefore, I think yasu removed the feature where you can run roms of .nes and.gbc automatically. I think this is not good.. or else it could be just me.

P.S and yes I have both goomba and pocketnes emu's in the root directory.

Can anyone else confirm?

Hello everyone,

This is my 1st post on here, but been reading it for a little while now.

I have 2 x R4 working with v1.19(Unofficial) for my kids, and have 2 friends that I had to use v1.2x firmware (Probably SDHC flavor).

I wanted to try this YSMenu method, but failed to get it to work in the past.

I have 2 more in the mail and which to play with this, and get this going.

Now here's my question:

Thanks for your hard work. The auto updater works like charm. ysmenu zip file name has changed and gives you an error but that can be easily resolved by renaming the zip file.

guys. i use r4 chinese n manage to load ysmenu but unfortunately when i want to reset to main menu (while in game), it hang in ttds smiling face (loading screen). plz advice.

What that option does is that you don't have the R4 firmware at all anymore. You just put the files in the zip file into the root of your MicroSD and put it in the R4.

It will NOT change anything to my R4 card right ?

Format the MicroSD and we are back to when I bought it !

This load as a firmware method just loads stuff in memory and doesn't not flash or modify anything on the R4 card ?

Just saying that I love R4YSauto.

i'm not a big fan of YSmenu, but this package takes an annoying process and makes it very elegant.

the pros of using YSmenu don't outweigh the cons for me, so i'll stick with the old 1.18 patched firmware. Maybe when it becomes easily skinnable and i run into a game where installing YSmenu is the only option.

Uhh, I guess the author will be fine with this since you still need to download R4YSauto..

So, yeah, I wrote a GUI version of R4YSauto using C# 2008 to improve my C# skills.

You'll need .NET 3.0 runtime for this (later .NET 2.0 if possible - not a typo), and you'll need to extract all the files to the same folder as R4YSauto.

I'll slowly rewrite the batch code in C# as I get better.

You don't have to use this if you don't want, this is for those interested and those who are console phobic...

If the author isn't OK with his code being used as so, please feel free to request me remove the link.

I'll... release again when all the bat files aren't required anymore if that's the case.

please help a complete novice.
I have been reading these posts all week and frankly, Im more confused now than ever!!
I did the stupid thing and took someone elses word that R4 was what I needed so I have bought three of them.
Downloaded the latest R4 kernel (v1.18 i think) but am finding a few games that lock up or wont load with save file type errors.
what EXACTLY does ysmenu do that the R4 kernel doesnt?

what files do I actually need?

What is the sequence of ops needed to get it on my R4 DS card (NOT the unofficial R4 DSHC)

This may sound pleading, but I really need the help guys!!
I want to improve and be a helpful member of the site, just need a little pointing in the right direction

To fix your v1.18 issue with Cannot Save Game, use this unofficial v1.19 one

This solved my problems with all games.

I just want to get this YMENU working for learning purposes, but for my 2 kids, they are gonna stay with this v1.19 one because it works...

And I think this v1.19 was built using this YMenu method it seems, if it works, don't fix it

While not in the right thread, I'll respond and hope a mod moves it.

There are a couple options. If you can get into a game, and the game itself is giving you an error, you can just do an arm7 swap. there is a program called dsbuff which can do this for you. for older games, use simcity (J) as the donor, for newer games, summon night 2 (U) works. once you learn about swapping the arm7, what i wrote will make more sense. i've only had to do it a couple times.

Or you can install the ysmenu. go to the first post in this thread. follow those directions. the only other thing you'll have to download is the actual ysmenu. the link is in the first post. you want to scroll down the japanese until you see DS(T_T) or something that looks like that. it will also say YSMenu underneath that. the latest one as i type is ysmenu0901010000.zip. you can grab it by clicking the link on the most recent date. rename the zip file to have the numbers 0810211800 and put them into the directory with r4ysauto. run r4.bat

when given the choice of how to use YSMenu, choose (1) for firmware replacement. it will make a zip file. throw the contents of those into the root of the microSD. that should do it.

other things, like replaceing the skin files, and updating the cheat files should be simple in comparison. do NOT update the dstt firmware in the r4ysauto folder. the latest doesn't work, and i nearly tore my hair out because of it. and just to clear up any possible confusion, use the USRCHEAT.DAT, and not the usual R4 CHEAT.DAT. while it may seem really obvious, it always helps to explicitly state it.

the whole idea of this being a mess is mostly to do with the author of ysmenu. he doesn't want people distributing it outside his website, and he doesn't offer pre-built versions. he also only offers it in the japanese section of his site. a lot of headaches can be saved if he wasn't so "weird." that's the nicest word i can think of. the only reason this kind of behavior is tolerated is because he's the only one providing this, and it's sorely needed, so the community bends over and takes it. this sort of thing wouldn't go in a more established scene like the snes.

and if anyone has noticed, i decided to just go with ysmenu for now, contrary to my previous statement. the worst that's happened was that i lost my mother 3 save. i backed the sram into a *.sav, but i have no idea how to load it back. while i hadn't experienced any compatibility issues (barring the sonic rpg, but arm7 swaps are easy enough), i might as well proactively make sure i don't encounter any down the line.

but i REALLY want soft reset.

Someone is distributing YSMenu in binary form through posting rar's in newsgroups.

For example:

alt.binaries.boneless - ********.rar

I don't think Yasu will approve of this.

Someone posted a topic here with a link to a *cracked* version of DSTT with the DSTT fake killer code removed which should make it possible to get the latest versions of DSTT to work with YSMenu.

I replaced the TTMENU.DAT with the one in the 1.17 file from http://www.ndstt.com/ and used that with R4YSauto, and it worked!

how can i get the r4ysauto generated FW to show me a verbose loading screen? my old manually made YSmenu (using the stickied guide) showed me the percentage when loading, while r4ysauto just freezes the screen while loading, and i would really like to have the old verbose screen back.
