Hi I have a 3.2E wii and i got the homebrew channel b9 installed, but i can't seem to run the cios installer for backup loader 0.3. It says press A to continue, so I press it and nothing happens.

I'm using the full package from the first post. and yes i do have internet connection. also no i can't not access the wii shop (haven't updated)

No cios installed, first time.

Why is this happening?

Hi djtaz,

First of all, thank you for taking the time out to make this package. As a newbie to the scene, it was very useful to me. I am using 3.1E on a PAL Wii. I have followed your instructions and did the following on what was before this process, an untouched Wii:

Installed Twilight hack.
Installed HBC.
Installed safe update to 3.3.
Run cIOS Installer.

(All from the zip you have in your sig as of this time of posting)

I have not installed any backup loader channel yet and instead am just running them through HBC. All seems to have gone through OK. I do have a few questions though, if I may:

My Wii says I am still on 3.1E and I noticed many people mention being on 3.2 or even 3.3 - how do I go about upgrading to, say, version 3.2E? Is there even any need to do so? From what I can figure, what I have installed from your zip was cIOS249 by Waninkoko. Am I correct in saying this is the 'IOS36 rev06' listed on his website and I should install any updates he releases here after? And lastly, even though I installed the 3.3 safe update, I am still unable to access the Wii Shop. I imagine this is because I am using 3.1E and lack certain functionality from a newer update. Was it safe for me to use the update while using 3.1E?

Sorry for asking what I imagine are repetitive questions but I wish to understand what I've actually done to my Wii so I know how to maintain it regards updates etc. My attempts to read through the threads and posts here are only leaving me more confused (D'oh) :-)

Thanks in advance!

If its not broken dont try to fix it - the latest updates break your wii , leave well enough alone with what you have.

In the apps folder in cIOS INstaller theres a read me - it says the following :

cIOS Installer with read retry fix
When you report any game to work or not please specify that you used this version.
WiiGator

Its the latest cIOS by wiigator with a fix in it

Yeah its safe to update while using 3.1E - try running it again and say yes to everything again - i had to do it 3 times myself to get it working as it errored and i didnt spot it.

Strangly , these are pretty valid questions and not covered that often.Hope that helps ?

Thats not really a backup loader issue - its a dvd burning issue

Thanks a lot djtaz! :-)

I tried the 3.3 safe update again and indeed, it hadn't worked the first time but is fully functional now. Thanks for clarifying on the cIOS version/author too. If I could bug you one last time - although I would like to save myself a heart attack and stop here, I'm concerned that some games will require a firmware greater than 3.1E to run properly and I would also like to install StarFall, which I gather isn't compatible with 3.1E. I believe I can upgrade by running bushing's pal semi brick fix which will take me to 3.2E. Is this a safe thing to do now after installing the 3.3 safe update? Would I need to uninstall anything at all before attempting this update, (or anything after to get things functioning again).

Congrats on getting that going.
As far as im aware (im on 3.3E so im not touching my system) Waninkokos downgrader is badly named and can also upgrade your system - you pick the firmware and it downloads that for you.
There is also the option of getting the updates on a disc like Mario Kart i believe has one and a few others (i dont have a list handy).
I dont know a whole lot about changing the firmware since i have never had to do it myself so i wouldnt be the best for advice on this , but hopefully someone else will jump in here and throw out a few ideas that may help

wii music has the 3.3 v1 update on it , from what i can tell the only thing you can't do after this update is trucha signed discs but you can always use gecko os for those.

Cheers for the suggestions. In the end I used Waninkoko's 1.2 *grader and installed 3.2E. Seems to be working fine. Homebrew's OK, still have the new shop channel functioning and StarFall installed perfectly so I'm a happy bunny. You have my vote for president, djtaz.

If I have a Wii NTSC-U and a game PAL, how can I run it using Backup loader 0.3, do I have to use something like region free, or is there an option on the loader that I have to use in order for the game to work?

Edit:
Ok I just seen this:

A : To play Pal games you have to force them to NTSC so use the Forced NTSC version to make life easier for yourself. Do not update with your wii using a Pal game.

So this means I can put the PAL game on my NTSC-U WII and it will run it if I have the ForceNTSC channel installed? What is the differencia between both ForceNTCS channels?? Thanks in advance!

There is a channel installed called FORCE NTSC that you could use , or on the normal channel loaders (press B on some) and select FORCE NTSC in the config .... the channel for ntsc is in my zip file and will be online again in 7 mins 30 seconds

You only need to force NTSC if your TV doesn't support PAL.

Also some games will not work when forced to NTSC.

Ok, I used the files on your zip to install the loader and the channel, I installed the "BackupChannel_0.3-ForceNTSC.wad" and so far it has worked pretty well (thanks for that). Now I see that there is also a "BackupChannel_0.3-ForceNTSCvipatch.wad" What is the difference between those 2?? My question was, Do I only burn the game PAL and put it in the wii with the forceNTSC wad, or do I have to tweak it??

OK click on the part in my sig that says

WiiGators Backuplauncher Beta 0.3 and v0.1 with IOS247 to run both

put the WAD with force NTSC into your wad folder on your SD card and install with wad manager

then go to your wii menu and try the backup channel

Well I already have that one installed on my wii, tho I dont know the difference between the patch one and the forceNTSC one, what does it patch?? Also, The game I want to run is Super mario galaxy, I have the iso and its the same size as the others, the others have worked fine with Maxell disks and burned at 4x, but SMG didnt work with the same specs, should I burn it again at 2x, do you know if that game works, the wiki says it does but do you know someone that has gotten it to work?

Well then, lastly, i also have the PAL version of that game, will it work if I burn it and put it in the wii and use the forceNTSC channel? Sorry for all the questions, I just dont want to damage my wii or brick it and, well, I would like the game to run.

Also, you havent told me what the BackupChannel_0.3-ForceNTSCvipatch.wad does, why are there 2 versions of the Force NTSC channel???

The pal game will work in the NTSC colsole - just dont ever do an update from a game if your mixing regions - thats what bricks them.
