Firstly which is better for watching movies? I've heard that the DDTS needs moonshell software does the Acekard 2?

Is one card better when you have larger micro SDs? I'm considering this 8 gb card:

which I believe is class 4.

Thanks

The DSTT displays all the games on the microSDHC card in one, long unsorted list (it cannot display folders), so not only is it difficult to find the game you want when there are a lot of games because they aren't alphabetized, but the scrolling is pretty laggy when there are a lot of files. The AK2's menu is very fast and responsive and you can organize your files into folders.

However, the DSTT is quite fast when loading and playing most games, while the Acekard 2 does best with a class 6 microSDHC on the most demanding games (such as the Castlevania intro video).

Both the DSTT and Acekard require moonshell or a similar program to play videos. I imagine that the DSTT might be slightly faster when playing videos, but I've never tried it so I can't say for sure.

The Acekard 2 is a much better cart all around than the DSTT.

Thanks for the response. I am now considering the SuperCard or Acekard after reading up on this forum.

Is one better than the other for watching videos and having a large amount of files?

Not really. The main advantage of the Supercard DS One is that it has real-time game state dumps which the Acekard 2 doesn't have. If that feature is important to you (most users don't need it) then the SCDS1 is worth considering.

Its menu is based on an older version of moonshell which does allow it to play videos without moonshell (it basically IS moonshell). With the Acekard 2, you would just run moonshell to play videos.

But because of the moonshell menu, the SCDS1 is somewhat sluggish when scrolling (similar to the DSTT), is a little more complicated than it should be, and some complain that it's slower at loading games than other carts. The Acekard 2 has one of the nicest and most responsive menu systems available. So if a nicer menu is worth more to you than the game state dumps you should consider the Acekard 2 (it's also a bit cheaper than the SCDS1).

ETA: I don't know if you've read up on playing movies with moonshell, but it's kind of a process. You have to convert the movie into a special format before it can be played with moonshell. The conversion process takes a while. A lot of people do watch movies on the NDS, but personally I find it to be a bit of a hassle.

The slower loading times is caused by the patching system. If you disable it, all games start faster.

I would just stick with the ak2 because its more of a well-rounded card.

Also... will you actually be watching movies on your ds. It's kind of useless considering how big the screen is. I see it as just something to show off to friends for a quick minute. Maybe you can use it as a mp3 player... but a movie player... really?

One of the reasons I want it is for video. I will use it on train journeys which might be quite frequent depending on the job I get. So it is important to me what they run ok. I currently use the ipod nano so the screen is an improvement and I wouldn't have to try and balance it to stay upright.

I do prefer the menus on the acekard but I am tempted by the real-time save on the supercard. Can you put everything into folders and organise the files as well as you can on the acekard?

So the general opinion is that the acekard runs faster on menus and loading than the supercard does?

Both will handle an 8gb class 4 micro SD ok?

both are compatible with the 8gb card yeah.
some things may be slow such as castlevania intos and the world ends with you may or may not run (dont have the card) using it on ak2 and have no idea about the supercard.
important consideration is supercard is white, acekard grey/black

Thanks to everyone for the replies. It comes down better user interface or more features I guess. I'm rubbish at decisions and still can't decide.
